Feeling like that is quite common amongst world leaders. Trudeau is the same.
 
There's degrees, though. Look at a table with Angela Merkel, Justin Trudeau, Drumpf and Kim Jong Un. I suspect that the most erudite of convos would be going on between Merkel and Trudeau... those critical of Trudeau's "prettiness" and "lack of policy" might wish to check out his predecessors. Chretien and his tortured English (and "street violent" image) used to pain me, greatly...

From Stalinism to Kibbutz to these people to Shavianism etc?

Too bad we can't put this simulation on hold and test out these governance styles to see how they work before they work? lol

The lesson might be in the whole idea of "Empire". As soon as you think you are entitled to 'colonize', you may have lost your way. The end result takes a long time, but may be inevitable.

how many peoples in the various countries have been colonized, waves after waves of peoples taking over other countries, renaming, reculturing?

think of the endless waves of conquest by the Golden Horde

Britain's endless waves of conquests (Britain named after one of the losers, the Britons...)

the Haida with their systemic intergenerational slavery...

the Japanese and the rape of Nanking? and their treatment of their aborigines, the Ainu?

a lot of questions:

who is responsible? what form should that take? who gets to decide? how long does this responsibility last (esp since go back and every country it seems has colonialism)? then what discoveries that happened "due" to colonialism, are they legit? are there more than one way, one lens, through which to view this? what facts become apparent and which disappear in differing Belief Systems in regards to this? and so forth.

Fascinating phenomenon: completely natural areas of diversity loss in Amazon (which is diversity central) rain forests. Interesting who the colonizers are

I don't think we will ever get rid of Status because I think it isn't a total social construct but rather an integral part of reality itself. Classless societies I don't think have ever existed, there is always some hierarchy happening.

So Rex Tillerson is out. Tillerson's days as Secretary of State were finished when Trump embraced the idea of meeting Kim Jong Un while Tillerson was far away in Africa. Tillerson then immediately tried to reign in the idea of the meeting by saying that US-North Korea talks were "a long way off." But Trump wants the talks with North Korea. He wants them desperately. Not because they're likely to make much difference to the Korean stalemate - but because they'll be a great distraction from the Mueller investigation, which seems to be edging closer and closer to the inner circle.

Fortunately, both Mueller and the Senate Intelligence Committee are forging ahead with their investigations. Jeff Sessions won't quit, but Trump knows that Sessions has more than enough support among Republicans in the Senate that a successor would never get confirmed, so he can repeatedly humiliate Sessions but he can't fire Sessions. Rod Rosenstein won't back down.

It's spinning rapidly out of control. A loss for the GOP in tonight's special election in Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional District would be devastating for Trump.

The 18th District has been Republican since 2003, and in the presidential election Trump beat Clinton by 20% in the District. Trump has been very aggressively supporting the Republican candidate, Rick Saccone - even travelling there to campaign for him. Donald Jr. has been there to campaign for him. The Republicans have poured about $8 million into this one special election for this one seat. It's an area just outside Pittsburgh - lots of miners and steel workers, and there's a lot of belief that Trump's recent tariffs on steel and aluminum had nothing to do with economics or trade and everything to do with trying to shore up Saccone's vote among steelworkers to help hold this one seat, because if the Republicans lose just this one seat (or even just eke out a bare win in a seat that should be safe for them) it's a sign that the Trump coalition might be starting to fracture and that the GOP may well be in big trouble in November's Congressional election.

(This special election came about because of the resignation of Republican Congressman Tim Murphy - the fiercely anti-abortion Congressman who had an affair, got his girlfriend pregnant and tried to convince her to have an abortion.)
