My Criminal Record Screening Certificate arrived in the mail today and along with it my National Criminal Records Repository statement clearly stating that my fingerprints could not be associated with any existing criminal record or item of evidence.

I add my signature to the Call form tomorrow and then it will be up to East District Sub-executive to sign off on paperwork and establish a date for the covenanting service. Once District officials view the Criminal Record documents I should be good to start work in my new charge.

Party at John's Place!!!!!

(assuming any of us can get there:))

Congratulations on covering your tracks. Others can be so sloppy.

Congratulations. They are lucky to have you.

I'll respond to this later once I have figured out the best angle for plausible denial.

And I them.

Thank you.

Tis like cornfield gospel ... even pagans get a kick out of slap-stick stuff they don't understand and raises curiosity levels ...

Some don't get that far ... alien expression is like that too ...

Wonderful news revjohn! What can you tell us about your new parish?

The Brigus, Cupids, Georgetown Pastoral Charge is two preaching points. They alternate services so at present I will only be expected to preside over one worship service per Sunday.

Brigus is a surpassingly beautiful town. Very unlike other rural outports I have served or visited.
Town of Brigus -Photo Gallery

The Church was dedicated in 1875, I haven't been into it yet. It has absolutely no parking and sits at the top of a mid size hill with very steep approaches. The hill overlooks the Brigus Tunnel.

Cupids is very narrow and looks quite a bit like many rural outports. I haven't seen much of this town yet as the Church is located at the bottom of the harbour and town is out further towards the harbour mouth.

Cupids was the first English Permanent Settlement in Newfoundland predating St. John's by more than 15 years.

At present the Church in Cupids is the only Church on the Island with a heat pump. If you look at the Cupids website under media in the photo gallery you will find a Spectacle Head Gallery, it has some good shots of the Church though they are several years old. Considerable development has happened along the waterfront and a fairly modern museum sits to the right of the Church. Picture 7 in the Spectacle Head Gallery shows the manse (which was sold) and the Museum was built on that parcel of land. To the left of the Church in that same picture you can see a flag pole set on the Waterfront. Cupids, allegedly, has a huge Union Jack (allegedly the largest outside of the UK) which it flies on special occasions.

Both communities boast populations of a little more than 700 people.

St. John's International is 15 minute Drive. In fact, if the wind forces you to use a certain runway you will pass overhead and slightly to the east. I have actually raced a plane coming in with visiting friends and been in the Airport waiting for them to claim their baggage. It works better on a late night flight when there is less traffic.

But it is handy.

The Argentia Ferry will be closing soon which means if you intend on coming you need to cross to Channel-Port-Aux-Basques and then drive about 10 hours to St. John's. Better to come in the summer when you can take the Argentia Run, it is a longer crossing but it lands about 2.5 hours away.

We have lots of space and have already entertained visitors on several occasions. We have a hot-tub on our main deck that has a fairly limited view of our tree-line. Hot tub runs all year long. Great to soak in on a frosty night with a light snow falling.

Sigh. We shall see. I actually suggested The Rock for this year's summer vacation but family wanted heat and sun so the deserts of Utah won out.

What other religious presence is there in the two communities, John? A Catholic church/priest in each?

Roman Catholic and United Church congregations active in Brigus. The former Anglican Church is now a heritage attraction open only in the summers for weddings, readings, concerts and lectures.

Which suggests that my idea of turning Brigus into a Destination Wedding location has been thought of already. Not surprising it really is a beautiful town.

Father Alejandro Credo O.S.A serves both communities like myself. We haven't met yet. Father Gerald Prescott serves the Anglicans in Cupids. I have yet to met him also.

It is a lovely place for sure. But the day we visited, there was some yahoo driving his VERY noisy hot car back & forth through town & across the bridge - wow was it LOUD. Might interrupt those beautiful nuptials!

Loud is a sign of the bull ... whether due to horn or canon ... sometimes a Shaffer ... if bold in script of metaphor! Few understand or even query ... if they believe they are familiar with eternal stretches ...

I wonder how much I would have made use of something like this:
Commuter Study Hostel | Residence Services University of Alberta

In undergrad I had an 8 am class where our marks were based on 6 in-class exams. Some days the LRT was unreliable and I recall days where I drove in bad conditions and it took me more than 3 hours driving to get to campus.
With working in labs during undergrad and then grad school I also had lots of overnight experiments as well as just weird times (something runs for 3 hours, then I have stuff to do with it, next step I can let it go for 5 hours, etc)
I wonder if I would have chosen something like this. Quite possibly for the exam course, I stayed with friends who lived close to campus the night before. For experiments though, often getting around campus takes up time whereas a couch to crash on is in the same building (and usually a room where I had a key).

I had a classmate who drove in from Camrose to Edmonton. I bet she would have used this a bit if it was available then.

Read the very brief article of the student’s death at the Unicersity of Ottawa and am hoping Little M is okay.

He is good. Just got over the flu, which he came down with just after returning to Ottawa from vacation. We actually heard the story from him on a Skype call before it hit the media.

Is that separate from the death at Algonquin?
ETA - Sorry just injured. Didn't hear about either here. For some reason when I googled, Algonquin came up first.
