AC, you are quite wrong. People's guts affect their minds a lot more than we realize. Best way to maintain good gut health is to give it as wide a variety as possible of minimally-processed, healthily-grown fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins, including lots of fermented ones. You won't find any of these important components in the 'food' we allow to be marketed to children. It affects their brains and how well they can think.

Here once more you an I disagree . My belief Said's Jesus Hungered . The evil one said , If you are the Son of GOD? Change this stone into a loaf of bread. What did Jesus say " yes I have the power , I will do just that? No He listened to GOD. And said " Man should not live by bread alone " but by every word that come's from the Mouth of GOD". The food of Life". Dose the evil one use our parts" to get us to sin? The Body "will always let you down .It is the Spirit GOD "has saved. If you think the other way . It could get you in trouble , God for bid . airclean33- Gord.

Hi,

How do you feel about corporations like MacDonalds, as an example of multiple corporations which have hooked a generation of children by the sale of sugar, salt and fat, producing an epidemic of childhood obesity and diabetes? From my perspective this is a matter of much greater concern than Halloween. Yet we hear next to nothing on this health crisis from the various churches in our society. Which makes me very sad.

Just wondering.

George

I am against the sin of gluttony, especially as it's found in churches. My Directed Research Study, which I completed at the end of my university days, was a critical examination of gluttony in Toronto churches.

I haven't heard any churches (and not many ministers) speaking up about 'food like substances. I know overweight ministers and Christians who eat 'food like substances and sweeties.

I got into quite a disagreement on another online space when I shared that I was giving out two dollar coins. Someone said I was a killjoy and should give out candy and junk food like everyone else. I gave my reasoning and was attacked as being 'too holy to be bearable'. Actually I don't really understand people who talk about the importance of good nutrition and hand out what they teach the kids to not eat. I don't understand adults who pay lip service to conservation and hand out unnecessary 'stuff' on Halloween and at other times. Many of my choices are driven by my fervent desire to leave a healthy world for my grands to inhabit.

ps - the kids who came by my house were delighted to get 'real money'!

Hi,
Most churches deal with the most dangerous of health issues first.
The majority of our modern health issues are related to life style choices. Cancer is directly related to the pollution of air and water. Both of which have been defiled by the corporate entities hungry for profit and power above all else. This while the church remains passive at best and complicit at worst.

As to the epidemic of childhood obesity and diabetes, if this is not a major concern for us all, irrespective of any religious bias, then we are negligent concerning our responsibilities as parents and citizens.

From the article "Childhood Obesity and a Diabetic Epidemic" in the "New England Journal of Medicine":

"Childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions; worldwide, approximately 22 million children under five years of age are overweight. During the past three decades, the number of overweight children in the Unites States has more than doubled."

As I understand it, the good shepherd cares for the sheep. Protects them from those who prey on the vulnerable. Not so with the bad shepherds. These take care of themselves no matter what the cost to the sheep in their trust.

One should attack the neighbour ... stress them out with poorly based fears and see what happens ...

Perhaps you can get them to think without intelligence too ... or is that a parallel to a mind in love with something other than piles of word ... a dark pool? Does this approximate blind beliefs ...?

First Hallowe'en in our new digs.

Same historic results. No traffic at the door.

Of course when you cannot see the house from the road and the driveway disappears into a forest and you live in a part of the country that is partial to fairies and ghosts and such that is probably to be expected.

Wasn't thinking far enough ahead and my wife decided we should by a box of assorted chips to hand out. I should have argued for an assorted box of regular sized chocolate bars.

You can just ship those chips over here, if you like . As you can see, I'm wearing my ape costume and saying "trick or treat".:) Can't eat chocolate bars anymore (or at least must do so sparingly).

Hence, my decision, when challenged to purchase something for the odd child who might show up, to purchase chips. I really only eat fair trade dark chocolate, so a package of candy bars was just going to add weight and pimples to my son-in-law-type... I quite like chips, but would never buy a bag for myself, so these will be a nice treat and stay fresh for a while. And one little bag produces exactly enough chip crumbs to top a small casserole.
