A homemade burger, made with 2/3 lean, 1/3 medium ground, with onions and oatmeal and spices, cooked on a charcoal bbq. Served on a homemade burger bun with a slice of tomato and a few slivers of basil, both freshly picked from the back garden, perhaps a spoonful of homemade zucchini relish.

LAST, although I was FIRST down at the lake at 6:15 this a.m., and there was a distinct chill in the air.

I agree with BetteTheRed, minus the zucchini relish.

You had me but for the oatmeal. Why add such filler?

Because it hangs together better on the barbeque (there's also an egg or two gluing it together; I make these things in bulk during the summer and freeze them). Doesn't add or subtract to the flavourings like breadcrumbs can do. My Dad got very irritated if burgers fell apart while he was grilling them.

While I can and have improved on many a childhood recipe, I keep this one because it tastes good and ups the nutrient value significantly (oats are good things).

Okay, thanks Bette, that makes good sense.

I rarely frequent fast food places. The only hamburger variety I really liked was the A&W mushroom burger. Haven't been able to buy one of those in years.

A&W is the place I'll go today. For every Teenburger they sell today they'll donate $2 to help fight MS.

My daughter begins school after Labour Day at our local Community College to study Civil Engineering Technology. We picked up new eye glasses for her this week so she'd be able to see properly.

LAST, as I realize that this is the first time in 30 years that I will not be there to see the first year students arrive. Their backpacks and their shoes are almost always new.

My school begins for me September 11. It will be my final year. I'm looking forward to it, while also feeling a bit sad and sentimental.

Wow. It's raining so hard I can hear it on the roof of this building. I don't ever remember hearing that in my time here. What a wonderful sound. We need the rain!

I hope it is also raining in the BC Cariboo.
