People are freakin' out these days. There are many alive today who remember and experienced the rise of Nazi Germany. "Never again", they vowed. But t
here is no moral equivalency in what happened last weekend. People are afraid and feel a need to fight for what they see as a direct attack to both their security and in many cases their very lives. Fighting may not the best of actions but there is no moral equivalency in what they did, they fought for their children and their children's children. Regarding Trumps suggestion of "moral equivalence on both sides", Mitt Romney tweeted on Tuesday : “
No, not the same. One side is racist, bigoted, Nazi. The other opposes racism and bigotry. Morally different universes.”

I kind of like the idea of bringing down the old statues, but only if that what it really takes to provide us with a true moral compass. The argument that history is being torn down and forgotten is preposterous, we don't see statues of Hitler in Germany but that history will be always remembered. It's the
idolization of history that needs to be torn down. We are moving towards unity not away from it. Idolizing a time when masters owned slaves produces great separation in our human relations. If a house (of human beings) is divided against itself, it will fail. So even it's only symbolic, pull down the old and outdated thought forms.
