TRUMP - Some people think......... How do you feel?

revsdd: I can't think of any world leaders who were Christians in any sense of the word. Hitler was a Christian as much as Truman or Mackenzie King or Churchill - or Trump (who prays with his cabinet and with a preacher in attendance.) And George Bush jr., who is a devout Methodist. Churches don't seem to notice that.

The good news is that we don't have to discuss Trump any more. He's finished (though he could arise with an invasion of North Korea.) The vote to save obamacare was cast by people who didn't want to save it. Their only purpose was to humiliate Trump, and to effectively destroy his presidency. After he's gone, they'll kill obamacare. So the good news is that Trump is finished.

The bad news is that those who will succeed him are worse, much worse. The only exception is Bernie Sanders. But I would not rate his chances highly.
Depends how one defines a "Christian." The point is that Hitler fit no definition of what it was to be a Christian - neither his actions nor his professed beliefs. He rejected the basics of Christian doctrine.

As for other world leaders - certainly none were perfect Christians, because there is no such thing, if by "perfect" you mean one who perfectly resembles Christ and lives by his way. I certainly don't do that. I know of no one who does.

And then you will be left with disgruntled Trump supporters who will not take Trumps leaving lightly.

Better he remains as a puppet for someone who is more competent. In other words the dialogue and efficiency improves.

I don't see much hope. Certainly, North Americans are dead from the neck up. I did not invent Trump or the wild people of the Republican party. Nor did I invent the war crazed "patriots" who are eager to kill for Christ.

It is most unlikely that Trump will be succeeded by someone more competent. U.S. presidents since Roosevelt have largely been a parade of mass murderers in the service of big business. And Canada has specialized in leaders who are characterless (like Justin) or actively destructive (like Harper.).
By a combination of factors - like a fictionalized version of American history, 'patriotic' propaganda, an absurd believe in American values that don't, in fact, exist - most Americans cannot see the reality of what they have become. Nor have the Christian churches helped them to see more clearly.

But theres still the matter of damage control if Trump was out.

The U.S. may we have passed beyond damage control. It's certainly happened before in history. The last emperors of Rome know about that. And the lords of the British, French, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese empires.

Perhaps he wants the chaos to impose more laws and appear as a saviour?

Hi,

Hope begins when we clearly see reality and determine to face it with purpose rooted in an alternative imagination.

Am reading Naomi Klein on the Trump phenomenon. The first chapters present a clear perspective on the roots of the historic crisis now reaching its logical conclusion. The middle chapters elaborate the part Trump and his cohort of billionaires are expressing. The last chapters offer an alternative imagination. Her key insight on this has to do with our personal and shared determination to express concrete, creative and courageous resistance.

Camus comes to mind. He notices that our practice of resistance may not overcome the problem confronting us. He then affirms the joy experienced by companions along the way of resistance.

I just need to reinforce, Graeme, that your views are very depressing.
He probably doesn't have any choice?
I just hope his looking into the Hearts of Darkness doesn't drive him into insanityland like it did Neitzsche...I hope he has ways outside of himself to deal with that

With some abstract imagination we can get beyond our emotional self ...

When beyond here and now will we have learned different than doing depressing things to the presents ... presidents?

He believe he is a gift to some ... a thorn in Eros to others ... something always blooms ...

Can you imagine working under someone that thinks they are the greatest and all else is chit ... something to memo or twitter?

The greater good is this out there ... something yet to come ... as in anon ...
