Didn't know where to put this but last night I watched the first part of A Handmaids Tale written by Margaret Atwood on Bravo. I read it years ago. It is very well done and I can't wait to see the continuation next Sunday night at 9. Anybody see it?

No - saw the previews & thought it might be a little too disturbing at present, so I took a pass on it. Looked like it had great production values.

Recently started watching a BBC/Masterpiece series - Sherlock - with Benedict Cumberbatch (where DID he get that name??) & Martin Freeman (better known as Bilbo Baggins) as Dr. Watson - an Afghan war vet . It's set in present day London & we've really been enjoying it. Nothing like a good mystery. But I can't really knit & watch it - have to pay good attention!

I guess I'll see it when it comes to Netflix...I love Margaret Atwood's dystopias because they're so damned possible.

Cambridge - Galt area - some of it at Central Presbyterian across from my father's retirement home

I have only watched the first episode but I loved it. Cumberbatch is the best Holmes since Jeremy Brett in the eighties and Freeman is a great Watson.

( aside) Hearing reference to Galt ON makes me think of my mom - she served as a WREN during WW2 and her initial training was in Galt. She then was moved to the Cornwallis base in NS to serve. If we ever drove thru Galt, she would point out the building where she had lived and trained. I think possibly it is a spa now?)
Okay - now back to movies!

Speaking of TV shows, American Gods, based on the Neil Gaiman novel, has now started its run on Starz and I'm almost ready to drop for Amazon Prime for a month or two just so I can see it. Reviews so far (there have been showings at festivals and such prior to the premier) have been uniformly excellent.

Assuming this is a joke (and I am not familiar with Babylon Bee so I am not sure): :ROFLMAO::LOL:

I have come to hate "grimdark" superheroes. Yes, someone like Batman shouldn't be all roses and sunshine. No issue with that. But the whole thing has gone so far it's become laughable. Batman : The Animated Series did Batman seriously and managed to be dark when it needed to be (eg. the classic episode where Batman has to intervene in a Mob war over the drug trade which includes a Mob boss confronted with the fact that his son is addicted to the very heroin that he is importing), but also stuck a nice balance with some lighter material.

Yes, the Bee is satirical. It's like The Onion for Christians (another one is Lark News).

The whole grimdark thing is what the Bee here is satirising. I agree that some heroes lend themselves to grim tales more than others. My favorite superhero saga is LoT. I think they have a great blend of grim/campy.
