Football-take it or leave it I can throw a good pass, we often played touch football

On a deeper level Why does society place so many resources into watching men play sports? I hear Obama has just said no more government money for sports stadiums....

Because society lets men have leisure and not women. Just finished reading "Overwhelmed" by Brigid Schulte which basically addresses your question.

Well. Never underestimate the power of bragging rights. The notion that "my" team winning something means something significant about me is not only deeply rooted but fairly common. Sports rhetoric is full of it. Many, for the purposes of selling the interests of Major League Baseball or civic self-justification, like to refer to Toronto as "Canada's team".

It isn't.

It is the only MLB franchise operating in Canada.

It is about as Canadian as Target was. There is also that irritating bit of truth that even in the shadow of the Roger's Centre there are people who wear some other teams colours and cheer for that other team to succeed.

And when the team we have given our allegiances to does well we feel that our choice to support has been vindicated. Should our team go on to win the prize it aims for we feel that we, somehow, are a part of that success. If it weren't for me spending buttloads of money on authorized merchandise our team would . . . .

As well he should. Professional sports franchises are often corporate thugs.

Ton't build their arena with their own money, they argue that they should be given sweetheart deals as far as rental prices are concerned and they want to exercise a monopoly on concessions. They deny the label thieves because they aren't actually forcing us at gunpoint to give into their demands.

But that is primarily a problem with the Major leagues. Minor leagues can be fairly family friendly and just as entertaining.

The only time I have ever held season tickets for a sports franchise was the Brantford Red Sox of Major Intercounty Baseball. I gave them up because I was never home for the play-offs and it wasn't as much fun boasting in St. Anthony, NL about my Brantford, ON team.

Then there is the My Father can beat your father syndrome ... just to get the bloodline flowing ...

Competition when there is leisure time away from battling the dark forces of nature ... mother of the perfect storm in the subconscious!

Last in the Longest Yard is a very touché topic ... one hast to hit hard where it hurts to get through to the dark shadow of soul that is the knowing thingy ... as the spirit knows little due to excessive wanderings ... leaving Holy places at hommeo ... common rapturous points as bubbles in the Q want eM field or veld ... a place where scattered gems may be found in the arias below the horizon? One must put your ear down ...

Football's very popular. Many people from all over the world enjoy it. Horror films are the best thing for many. Drivers ogle accidents on the road. Bloodsport draws large amounts of views.

Living vicariously through sport is popular
Living vicariously BethAnne? Getting injured vicariously through the process is completed by their respective affiliates. Human nature craves injury, and sports is the way they can get some good times.

LAST as I ponder the easiest way to post my on-going novel online to make it easy for folks to find and me to ad to.
