I knitted for my older siblings kids. I knitted for my own - until they hit Grade eight and decided it wasn't 'COOL' to wear home made clothing. During the years of knitting for my young kids I found patterns that would take too long to make. I saved these and dreamed of the pleasure I would get from making them for grands. Hmmmffff..........young mums apparently can't be bothered to wash treasures carefully!! I was told if a bit of clothing can't be tossed in the washer and dryer it is useless.

I was told if a bit of clothing can't be tossed in the washer and dryer it is useless.

I am fond of hand-knits, not a fussy washer. With few exceptions (I have a couple of loosely knit shawls/shrugs that would be dice-y in the washer, should I need to wash them), almost everything comes out fine in a cool/cold water "delicate" wash. Then hang or block to dry. I have a buck store rack with a ton of clips in my laundry room for hand knits (socks, really) and bras.

I don't have any difficulty with washing and air drying knitted items, My younger generation wash in whatever heat water suits them at the time and then dump everything in a hot dryer. They just aren't 'into' fussing with laundry.

Well, then, they don't "deserve" hand-knits. Once you realize the unique-ness of good yarn, and interesting dyes, and patterns, etc., and the amount of time it takes to produce a garment, you can't denigrate the value of what you've got.

Fridays are "dress down" days at work. I wore (as I often do in the winter), a gorgeous Benneton sweater, in a subtle grey/rainbow self-stripe wool that everyone remarks on, and a hand-knit cowl in a multi-green cashmere blend using a fascinating woven cable pattern knit by my sister. People wearing hand-knits are truly beloved by someone. My sister loves me; I have a beautiful and extensive collection of hand knit socks.

Yes indeed Bette - you are "knit worthy" That's a phrase I've sometimes heard used by people when selecting yarn, patterns etc. I suppose there are many levels - a simple pattern in washable synthetic; a simple pattern in a nicer fibre; a simple pattern in a lux yarn ... and it could go on & on!!

So much is delocalized to allow divination and separation by the earthy gods ... they believe not in any other essence ... then the exocrine cuts in ... a balancing substance for excess endocrine ... poorly understood materials!

Yet, still folk wish to not know ... and thus the friends step in as enemies ... love-hate fires up! Down to earth fundamentals?

Qui to why we can't get it together ... we're all in a bad light?

Our old WC friend Birthstone asked me to knit her a Melt the Ice hat. I purchased the pattern & had lots of red yarn on hand. I knit the pattern first - bleck - such a lot of 1x1 ribbing! Then the crown turned out very shallow & tight. So I ripped it back to the top of the ribbing & knit a dozen rounds just plain, then started the decreases according to a different pattern. Liked it MUCH better. My 'customer' needed room for her pony tail!
I did see a fb post from the wool shop that posted the original pattern - it indicated $650,000 (yes, you read this right!) has been raised so far from this initiative (proceeds from pattern sales & donations) & donated to various organization in Minneapolis who are supporting the resistance.
And red yarn seems to be sold out everywhere!

I have a beautiful hat knitted by my sister which would also be a great resistance hat. Shaped like a Handmaid's Tale headpiece, with cunning tassels anchored by dog print beads. Wool is a merino/silk blend, which makes it soft warm and subtly shiny.

This reminded me of the Canadian comedy show, " This Hour Has 22 Minutes" about the Canadian Border Patrol who were called "The Nice Patrol" and showing the American tourists around and buying them Beaver Tails.
Anyway back to the knitting thread.....
I don’t remember that segment. They wore red toques, I’m assuming?
