I just came across this deconstructionist's analogy of dating and breaking up with Jesus.

It is his answer to the question he often is asked on why he can't stop talking about Jesus even though he is no longer a Christian and I would give it a solid thumb's up.

Give it a listen if you have 8 minutes to spare.

(y)or (n)?

I think you forgot the link? :giggle:

In many cases, I find that people deconstructing aren't breaking up with Jesus entirely. They are breaking up with their church or their church's understanding of Jesus. Many of the ones I have listened to are still Christian, just a very different sort than they were before deconstructing, usually moving from evangelical to progressive (ones who go the other way tend to use different terminology). Sounds like this one is one of the ones who went the full distance.

Speaking from my own experience of moving away (I didn't formally deconstruct, though I imagine that if I analyzed my journey, it probably wasn't much different from some of their's), I retain an interest in Jesus and Christian thought, even if I don't make them the focus of my spirituality. Maybe that means it wasn't a clean break, like still being friends with your ex?
