Why Are We Afraid?

Here are a few questions about the common Orthodoxy of Eternal Damnation.

• If some people will end up in eternal torment, is God unable or unwilling to save them? Logically, it must be one or the other. No tricky appeal to free-will can alleviate the tension of the question.

• If we determine our destiny by our free will, then is not our will stronger than God’s will? How do we deal with passages as in Romans 9 that says we cannot resist His will?

• If some people will be tortured eternally, which is apparently the will of Satan, how is Satan a defeated foe? Doesn’t eternal torment make Satan a partial victor?

• How can there be “no more tears” if some people will be tormented forever?

• How can we say that “His mercy endures forever!” if His mercy for us, in the most practical and real terms, ends if we do not choose to follow Christ before we die?

• Given the Bible’s revealed standards of righteous and justice (which are clear and not mysterious at all), how is unending punishment just reward for temporary sin? Again, the Bible is clear on standards so saying “God’s ways are not our ways” or “It’s a mystery with God” is only an avoidance of a hard question. The question must be Biblically answered with justification from Scripture.

• If God “gives up” on those who do not choose Jesus before death, how does the parable of the 100 Sheep, with 99 found and the master leaving the 99 to find the one lost one, make any sense?

• Why does God give up on people after death?

• If eternal Hell is the price for disobeying God and living in Sin, why did God hide that from Adam and Eve and promise a different penalty? Why did God hide the most horrific fate possible, torture in Hell forever, from mankind for entire Old Testament period (probably 4,000 years)?

• How does the idea of Col 1:15-20 “restore All Things” make any sense if some things are permanently and irrevocably isolated from and unrestored to God forever?

• Why must an omnipotent, omniscient God, who describes Himself as “Love”, settle for not having everything that has ever been made love and worship Him? Why must He settle for a divided creation in which some live in abundant joy and others live in mind-numbing torture? Is God really that weak or does He want that kind of reality?

• Why do we think that our “will” is so absolutely free, when it is affected by every little thing around us and we rarely respond from thought alone, but often from instinct built in us from birth?

• How can God be “All in All” as Revelation states He will be in the end if All is not in complete harmony with Him and His character of love, joy, peace, etc.?

• Why did God create a place of unending torture in the first place?

• How is God glorified in unending pain that does not lead to being restored to righteousness and a loving relationship to Christ?

Seems a myth of the integral nature ... when autonomous isolationists do not add up well for the final collection of what eact learned. That'd be a mess of a crowd that would scare the crap out of tyrannical authority (narcist)?

Many narcissists do not read into any myth, story, news or facts!

That almost made sense!

You'd be surprised what I transfer in my fuzzy communications ... but as an ordinary person I cannot because tyrants have told me to be silent ... they don't wish to hear ... thus dark tropes! Yes that too is an virtually unknown word to much of our over emotional world. I am a person that affiliated with emotional and spiritual intelligence ... something non acceptable to the constructs of emotion alone ... rationale and analysis is denied ... but still there in code. I still don't know much ... I am assured that by the extreme powers of predisposition that there is little more out there to learn. Don't leak a word of this JRT! Then they can remain stagnated and seized ...

Results in the great code of myth ... no end tuit!

God’s Sovereign Choice
6 It is not as though God’s word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. 7 Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”[b] 8 In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. 9 For this was how the promise was stated: “At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.”[c]

10 Not only that, but Rebekah’s children were conceived at the same time by our father Isaac. 11 Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God’s purpose in election might stand: 12 not by works but by him who calls—she was told, “The older will serve the younger.”[d] 13 Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”[e]

14 What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15 For he says to Moses,

“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”[f]
16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.

17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”[g]

18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

19 One of you will say to me: “Then why does God still blame us? For who is able to resist his will?”
20 But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’”[h] 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?

I say -------Verse 19 is your concern ---- For who is able to resist his will?” ------so lets see what the Greek word for Will here
means -----

Strong's Concordance
bouléma: purpose, will
Definition: purpose, will
Usage: will, counsel, purpose. intention

HELPS Word-studies
Cognate: 1013 boúlēma (a neuter noun) – a pre-set, fully-resolved plan. 1013 (boúlēma) only occurs three times (critical text, Ac 27:43; Ro 9:19; 1 Pet 4:3). See 1012 (boulē).

I say ----So this has nothing to do with individual people receiving Jesus in their hearts To be Saved by Faith in Jesus ------this here is referring to God's plan from before the Foundation of the world ---God used who He wanted and when He wanted to bring about the coming of His Son to die on the cross --to shed His Blood to rectify what we humans did in the garden -----

No one will be able to change God's will in what He wants to happen in this world ----His plan is still playing out and believe me when He takes out His wrath on this world when His will wants it to Happen ---No one will stop GOD'S WILL here ---and He will use whoever He wants when He wants to achieve His Sovereign plan -----and if we think this what is happening now is bad ----it is nothing as to what is in God's plan for the destruction of this earth in the end times -----

I say ----- Jonah was used to bring about His Plan by His Sovereign Will -----Jonah tried to resist God's Will -----and God used drastic measures to bring him to do His will ----Jonah realized that he couldn't resist His Will

Pharaoh was used by God's Sovereign Will to bring about His Plan in Egypt -----

By His Sovereign Will God chose Jacob instead of Esau ----To Fulfil His plan ----

If anyone was not a Jew by birth then they were known as a Gentile and were not under the 613 laws -----the Gentile Nation was a doomed nation because of their sins

Unsafe, this is an incorrect view of Judaism.

Judaism has plenty of 'room' for the 'righteous Gentile". Job was a righteous Gentile. For non-Jews, the 613 Mitzvah (obligations) are reduced to the much simpler "Noahide laws", Seven Laws of Noah - Wikipedia

More hammering and chipping away at the Golden Rule to cut out some fixed roue! That's a alternate law ...

Basic observation and science says you cannot make anything from nothing without a full opposite ... allowing for the body-psyche myth ... all built around a story, ballad, legend, etc. Didn't Jesus speak of legend and a pickle of a situation?

But of course many are not really searching for the truth, but searching for loopholes.

Plenty of room!
Jesus said none were righteous, but one.
They nailed him to a tree.

BetteTheRed -----your following Judaism which has different views ----and that is fine by me ---

I'm not Jewish, I just know a fair bit about it. A core group of us have had relationships with a number of Jewish synagogues - sharing meals, services, a little bit of shul.

I'm telling you that your statement "the Gentile nation was doomed" was not a view held by Judaism, then or now. Judaism is a faith that seeks neither to convert, nor to threaten, with Hell, or anything else. They certainly believe that they had a special revelation from G_d in Moses, but then Christianity believes that of Jesus.

One mistake that I find Christians make is to assume that all religions behave like theirs. Most do not. The only other faith that is as militantly missionary as Christianity in my experience and studies is Islam. Buddhism does believe in teaching the way but doesn't push it, just lets the message fall on fertile ground. Many other faiths are tied to cultures and don't really believe in conversion. Judaism used to be that way, Hinduism is like that, save for some splinter sects like Hare Krishna.

The Romans spread their faith but in a different way. Since most of the faiths they encountered were similar, even related, polytheistic faiths, they just added their deities to those faiths and vice versa (So the Greek Zeus was equated with the Roman Jupiter and so on). Polytheism works nicely that way. The persecution of Christians and Jews largely came about because those faiths rejected Roman polytheism, not the other way around. Had Christians and Jews been able to live with things like sacrificing to the divinity of the emperor, the persecutions likely would not have happened, or at least been less severe.

However, that's all off-topic. Back to being afraid.

As the story goes, the Dalai Lama once told a spiritual seeker to go more deeply into her own tradition when she asked about studying Buddhism.

Sometimes seen as the woman at the spring ... or in Frank countries Lourdes deep hiding space ... common caves... a pseudonym as John's!

Which makes a good point about Buddhism. Buddhism teaches a "way", specifically a way to deal with suffering. It isn't really about metaphysics. Meditation, compassion, and such can fit with many different metaphysics when you think about it.

Or pseudoscience as help from an abstract creation ...

Pontifex Geronimo 13 ----watched the video ------ this below is the caption underneath the video -----

Penn Jillette discusses a gift from an audience member. He still says he's an atheist, but is he softening?

I say ---
the fact that he shared this on youtube is so great and he seemed to be humbled by the man's niceness and looks like a seed was planted ------so for me the man did his job -----it didn't change the person but affected the person to share the experience ----it is all about seed planting ----

Is it naivete to depend on one book for everything in the context of that last verse of the Gospel of John?

Would one book in perspective of all those outlandish books of enlightenment be somewhat superficial and thus the more profound world of the integral God is mist ... kind of foggy on the face of it? Could cause some dynamic travelling in the mind of Jonathan Swift ... thus up the chimney another alter goes ...

BetteTheRed -----you said ---Job was a righteous Gentile -----I question that?

I say ----Well I don't know where you got this from ---cause there is no scripture that tells us much about Job's background as far as if he was a gentile or Jew ----but there is some information of who his father was ----

This is from --you can read all here --different Scholars say different things ------but I would bet Job is of a Jewish background not Gentile ---- just my thoughts ------and this seems to say so ----just saying -----

Genealogy of Job
By Mary Jane Chaignot

The best scholars can do is place Uz in the "East," possibly in Edom. There is a little more information in the Greek and Latin versions of the Book of Job. There, it states that Job dwelt in Ausitis on the confines of Idumea and Arabia. It continues that his original name was Johab. He married an Arabian woman and fathered Ennon. Job's father was Zerah who was from the lineage of Esau – five generations from Abraham.

I say ---
This is from Genesis 36 ----it is Esau Genealogy ----verse 17 says this ----you see Zerah listed as a son of Esau's son ----and Esau was not chosen by God his brother Jacob was chosen ---

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+36&version=MSG
Genesis 36 (MSG)
36 This is the family tree of Esau, who is also called Edom.

17 From the sons of Esau’s son Reuel came the chieftains Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the chieftains of Reuel in the land of Edom; all these were sons of Esau’s wife Basemath.
