Getting up quickly from the table is truly fasting ... before you consume to much ... a conscious activity of desertion instead of tabloid assertion?

Does not matter a whit HOW you diet, either. Via portion control (getting up from the table) or magic potions and pills. The net effect is that you convince your metabolism that there's starvation going on, and it slows down to conserve energy.

Shire stoppage?

Actually, that's an interesting point. A woman I work with (who has been the epitome of the yo-yo dieter as long as I've known her) has recently had one of those stomach-reduction surgeries. She is very thin now; I do not know how this will play out for her.

One of my relatives had that operation and after a time she was no longer happy in her skin ... so some of that was stripped too ...

Yes, extremes of weight gain and then loss can result in excess skin, for sure.

Interesting observation: I have two younger sisters, the middle one is very trim and tall and keeps herself in great shape, whereas I'm a little more prone to being a small, but round-ish little woman. "Neck" is always a go-to indicator of age in a woman. My neck is much less turkey-wattle-y than hers...

I've always been skinny to neighbours even though I weigh over 200 # ...

No skin off my r's to those perspectives ...

thi9nking about your twin story-there are other possibilities

Like me
Skinny as a child, light for height. Ate anything and was active.Had to gain 5 lbs to get pregnant. 3.5 kids later I was heavier. (The last 2 pregnancies were back to back). Had gall bladder surgery scheduled. Lost weight for it by walking (regularly and at a fast pace). Weight stayed fine through 40s. Began to creep on in late 40s and 60lbs heavier than 25 years ago. Diabetes diagnosis. I had already lost 10 lbs by watching my calories so now both calorie and carb counting and walking most days.
I expect weight will continue to come off as I am motivated (to avoid complications).

I was only ever truly skinny between 13-15 sometime. But even then I thought I was overweight because my step siblings were naturally thin and I had a complex - they told me I was chubby so even when I was thin I thought I was chubby. After that I retained a healthy average weight until I was in my late 20s then in my thirties the extra 20-25 pounds was increasingly easier to get on and harder to get off. Now in my 40s it's off again for the time being, without too much effort just smaller appetite - and at some point I realize it'll take effort to keep it off again. And that's the way it goes with me but I think 25-30 lbs was the most overweight I've been.

As a kid I was a healthy weight. I wasn't fat but my step siblings were more gangly. Anyway...

I don't have the turkey waddle neck but I have noticed since losing weight the expression lines around my nose and mouth are deeper - they fill in when my face is more plump I guess! Can't have everything.

weight is coming off steadily. 16 lbs gone since September. Very steady weightloss in last month. It could be the diabetes medication, the strict calorie limits I'm consistently sticking to,or the daily walking.... Doesn't really matter I'm quite pleased.

How better than bean pleased with loosing it ...

The seed of thought of bean with out? And thus it wasn't or so it appears as incarnate ... and thus un thoughts! Metaphysical compared to physical affections? Parallel but in other directions in the dark recesses of mine 'd! Shadowy soul ...

The balance turns? Or sis terns ... as the weight takes flight? Where does such stuff go ... under the OT directive to burn fat outside ... thus barbe Ques? A toast to eu!

I realised that I needed new pants - I only had two pairs of jeans and one pair of white dress slacks that were fit to be worn in public (ooops also have quick drying camping/canoeing pants). I trotted off to the local clothing store and looked along the racks. Grabbed a few pairs in 'my' size to try on. Weird - they were too big. The saleslady brought me some more pants a size smaller. Even weirder - still too big. My pant size had changed, quite magically, from an 18 to a 14!

When I got home I looked carefully at my partner and realised that he too had lost some weight. No dieting, no extra exercise, no change in meds. The only thing different is that some time back we started eating real butter and not stressing about fatty meat. Actually, we now eat much as we did twenty years ago when we were lighter in weight.

Unless someone else has a viable theory I'll thank my altered diet for the more slender size!

Kay -- I don't know your age. Some of my friends gained weight through 40's, stabilizied in 60, lost in 70s Not sure if related to hormones or less stress.

I think a lot of the diet advice around fat over the years has been very irresponsible. I've come to realize that the buzzword "low fat" does indeed translate to "chemical s**t storm". And the more we learn about fatty acid chains, the worse an idea "vegetable oil" has come to seem, even discounting the fact that most are GM seed.
