and I really really wanted Graham to lose his senate seat. Even more that I really really wantEd Mc Connell to lose his. Those two men are Trump biggest enablers. And both won

That's how I felt. I really liked Graham's opponent. It's too bad he didn't win. He's not done though I'm sure.

Here's a thought provoking piece from Bishop Will Willimon.

Biden's appalling record ...
phenomenally arrogant and full of himself
intellectual lightweight
no moral core
picked by Obama because he was a republican
throughout his entire political career served the interests of the elites
ripped apart Anita Hill
principle architect of invasion of Iraq
stalwart supporter of the apartheid state in Israel
engineered/supports wholesale surveillance of the public by gov't intelligence agency
along with Clinton behind the destruction of welfare of 70% children
called repeatedly for cuts to social security
one of the architects of the great betrayal of working class by NAFTA
behind the omnibus crime bill which doubled prison population
behind huge expansion of crimes that merit the death penalty
militarization of police
does not support the green new deal
does not support immigration reform
does support fracking
never been good on voting record for women's reproductive rights
segregationist - close relations with the worst segregationists in the congress
deregulating the banking industry with Glass Stegal
for profit health system drastically reducing health care facilitation

Biden wasn't exactly a great pic for the Democrats IMO.
Every 4 years the Democrats prove they stand for nothing different than the republicans on the major political issues ... War Free Trade Austerity Wholesale Surveillance ...

All of the ruling elites have failed to address the 'climate crisis' over the past 3 decades and any trust in Biden is just as misguided as trust in Trump.

The 'elites' are not beholden to the Common Good of the Citizenry ... They are one and all beholden to the Global Corporate Class that do not pay taxes and are never accountable for their willful destruction of the planet for their own profit.

So why was Biden selected? Because the corporate oligarchs prefer Biden over Trump because Trump is an in your face embarrassment to the global empire and they are hoping that Biden can restore some decorum ... and the major democratic donors made it clear that if Bernie Sanders was the nominee ... they would vote for Trump ... they may not like Trump... but they can live with him. They could not live with Bernie so they sabotaged his campaign in 2016 and again in 2020. Let us be clear ... without the massive amounts of corporate money funnelling figures like Biden or Clinton or Pelossi would never hold power in the first place. Take that big money out of politics and none of them would have a job and they know it.

The democratic party base has no say in their party platform or even the party hierarchy ... it is completely rigged ... Bernie was mistaken when he thought he could run within that system.

Oh me of little faith ... the empire is being run by war criminals and I am not optimistic that this year's reselection of the emperor will make much of a difference.

The Dems hung onto the House. Even McConnell seemed to me like he was ready to be a bit more conciliatory, just in case Dems win the Senate, and the presidential vote. He's a politician. He might just roll with the tide to keep his job. Don't know. Hoping. He knows Biden though. They've both been in politics a long time. Biden is not exactly a socialist. He might be able to get along with Biden.

That's what really kept US politics sane for so long. There was a collegiality in their Congress at one time that has been lacking over the three or so decades. Kept the partisan fires from burning out of control or something.
The one that baffles me is the Qanon candidate who won a seat. Can't remember now if it's the house or senate. To tired to look it up.
House. Saw that one, too, and had to shake my head.

Politics is a powerful field of endeavour for those knowing little ...

Some Lord said that power may corrupt; is it true given the testing?

I stayed up until about 3 - 3:30 am then had to sleep. I got about 5 hours. Not too much has changed in reporting since then. Looks like Biden won Wisconsin though. Most likely. But Trump wants a recount. Of course he does.

I did watch Trump in a video last night - admitting that "Winning is easy, but losing is very hard. For me it is." (Paraphrased but that was nearly verbatim) - it was probably the most honest comment from him in 4 years. He wasn't conceding but he did seem to be admitting to the possibility of losing.

Hey, so are we going to be able to like close this thread on January 20? I think it may be the longest thread on here after Last Post and Room for All. Need to check the stats. Will be kind of sad to see it go ... NOT.

Got a posting on my FB page today espousing the accomplishments of Trump in world peace, etc. Much of this believed by a faction without a question asked ...

Had a comment on one of my Facebook posts that if Trump hadn't been so good on Covid, those 230,000 deaths would have been in the millions.
Almost wet myself when I saw that howler.
Alas, some believe such balderdash. Maybe the same faction who believe in Trump's contribution to world peace....

To be fair, he didn't start any wars like a certain other Republican president of this century and even made an effort to extricate their troops from the ones that were already under way. It has more to do with isolationism than pacificism, though.

All this cheering about an insatiable death monster now having competent leadership and grown-ups in charge is psychotic.

At long last the competent grown-ups who murder people have returned to the White House. We can all sleep much better at night knowing there are once again adults in the room who murder people?
