TRUMP - Some people think......... How do you feel?

In my business we have to report incidents of verbal abuse...against women, racist remarks, etc....not sure why the president GOP nominee for president is allowed to ramble on without being called on it other than just being disgusted.

Fixed yer typo. The Donald hasn't won yet. And he is being called on it by commentators, opponents, and even some who have nominally endorsed him. The problem is that the core of his vote doesn't seem to care ("it's all just political correctness" and that sort of thing) and the GOP seem to have resigned themselves to him as their candidate.

Just saying....nothing against the elderly, he just doesn't look too healthy....although his doctor says he is in perfect health for a man his age.
If you're going to say something about his health, then say something about his health. To suggest that he's unfit for office because of how old he is would be ageism.

Thanks for the correction!

His outbursts are worrisome to me, it's not normal.

The president? When did Barack Obama say anything like that?

If you're talking about Trump - you think he's not being called out or reported for his comments? Read the news. Plenty of reports. What else do you think should be done?

It's not normal. It's politics. The two are not the same thing. It's getting him votes from a certain segment of society. It's got him to the Republican nomination.

Comments about age are hardly new to US politics. We heard it with McCain (72 at the time he ran) and we heard it a little with Bernie (74) during the Democratic race. Does not make it right, but it is part of the game down there these days.

I'd agree with you save one thing: He's always been a bit of a shoot from the lip blowhard. Trump not shooting off his mouth would be evidence of senility, IMHO.

Right, it isn't right, and since it isn't right, let's not engage in it.

Ha, sure....unless it's increased.

So politics gives the pass to be racist, etc...? There are plenty of reports, yes, but does no one think he should be prevented on being allowed to speak this way?

The Republican party has leveraged bigotry and hatred into governor and congressional wins, but has been unable to use it to win the White House the last two elections.

Trump has leveraged frustration at those failures to harness enough energy to win the nomination. He is there because he has appealed to both their frustration with people they hate, and the people they tried to vote for who failed to beat who they hate. Trump does not appeal to facts - he appeals to emotions and frustrations. He's not much different from previous Republican nominees, except he takes aim at his own party as well. Now the Republicans know what it is to be the recipients of their own kind of attacks, and they don't like it.

If Trump succeeds, it will redefine the party. If he fails in epic fashion and they lose the Senate at the same time, it will cause a Republican revolution. That's what Cruz is betting on. He has positioned himself well to try to be the saviour.

No. How you beat Trump is to use those words against him. When your opponent is shooting himself in the foot, don't take the gun away.

Although, if he was called on "verbal abuse", it would force him to have nothing to say.

This is the US we are talking about. The First Amendment is holy writ down there and there is no "peace, order, and good government " clause that could be invoked if you tried to legally shut down someone's free speech. Hate laws are brutally hard to enforce in that environment because the offender just has to say "First Amendment" to get the courts on their side.

The consequence for this campaign is that public derision and mockery of what Trump says is pretty much the only weapon that can be used.

And there's the rub....the Donald giving the worst example of free speech.

First, you didn't say anything in your original post about anyone being prevented from saying anything. You said others would be "reported." I said that Trump's more outrageous statements are being reported all over the place.

Should he be prevented? How do you prevent him from saying what he wants? Should he be arrested? Should he be disallowed from being on the ballot? His views may well be distasteful, offensive and even outrageous - but what laws has he actually broken that would justify such action?

He is normalizing racism and taking us back to the 50's by abusing the 1st amendment and turning free speech into hate speech. We didn't call Hitler on it and the world should have paid more attention.

I doubt that Hitler would have cared if "we" had called him on anything. If you're referring to Germans, actually, lots of people called Hitler on it. The Social Democrats and Communists in Germany quite vocally. That's why he was never able to really win a free election in Germany. He took power as the result of a shoddy political deal, not because he ever won a majority in the Reichstag. In other words, he was called on it by many people, but he still took power.

So, when you say Hitler should have been "called on it" - how?

What is more problematic than Trump's speech is the positive reaction of many Americans to this drivel.
This.

If you truly think they are wrong, you show it. You demonstrate it. You mock it. The moment you simply try to silence them, they win.
