Toward 2035

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

It was a Catholic church. The biggest one in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Right on hwy 8. So probably wine.

I did it one other time when I was with my wife at some christening for one of my nephews or nieces. Catholic again, outside of Ottawa. The priest could have been the brother of Gord Downie so I wanted a closer look. I wasn't hungry that time.

For the good of your health @unsafe you should probably avoid communion in a United Church. :p

Even I think we might be out in left field with our 'bread of life" and "cup of blessing".

I think that's what Trudi was expecting me to do. I recall at the time that I figured if I had to sit through this, the least they can do is provide a snack.

Like, it's not hard to figure out what to do. Just follow the example of the person before you. The choreography is pretty simple.

I have so little use for the Catholic Church, and even less now that we are more aware of the depth of their crimes. The only thing I regret is throwing money on a plate that came around in Ottawa. Trudi's mom gave her a little envelope for that occasion.

We no longer pass the plate because so many of our church members are on PAR. (Pre-authorized remittance.)

There is a plate at the exit door for visitors or anyone not on PAR. We still have the after offering prayer but I think it might be on its way out.

Someone once said there was only one rule and it was Golden ... I've been told by several theologians they never understood Kant as they attempted to privatize their efforts into more profiteering ... one has to experience such things to understand the random radicalization ... leads to rants on opinions based on emotions when the intellect is disposed of as prodigal (waste)?

Some other philosopher predicted that once gone it was difficult to reclaim ... the way IC it ... total Din, miasma ...

This is the sort of thing you guys need to be doing. Not endlessly talking in circles.

You won't, but you need to be doing these things.

Yet there is this mute concern ... when people deny mutation? No change just now ... change is a bother ... worry, trouble and all that which eventually comes to and end due to first order ethics ...
Means to and end?

How does one handle situational ethics in the great unknown?
In between is the means --- Burl Ives! Sometimes seen as a streetcar or other tracked vessel, vehicle?

Thank you for sharing this.

On Tuesday evening, B and I listened to part of a lecture on CBC Ideas while driving home from Montreal. The lecture was by Rutgers Bergman, a Dutch historian and writer and it was first presented on the Reich lectures of the BBC. His message included the role of cowardice by leading institutions failing to resist oppression and the hidden reality that they benefit from and support the relationships behind that oppression.

One problem we have on Wonder Cafe 2 is that we are individuals mostly scattered across Canada. I live outside a town of over 10,000 people and have not yet connected with a community of activists with whom I can share in engaging in resistance to bad political policies. I do write letters to the local paper, my MP, PM, and cabinet ministers. And I include resistance politics in my preaching. I am not doing the resistance things I would like to do, and I feel guilty about that.

I do not believe your characterization is true for all the participants in this site, though it may be partially true for me.

When the attacks on democracy and equity are hidden in the phrasing of public political statements, it is hard to generate an energetic response to those statements. An example is framing the current federal budget as an austerity budget while it contains no austerity for corporations or the middle and upper classes and losses of support for workers, the poor, and the sick.

This is what Christianity needs to be saying. It still wouldn't be true, but at least it wouldn't be complicit.

I am not sure he is addressing the site, though, or at least not just the site. I think he is addressing the United Church of Canada as well. If this was happening in Canada, would the church put out a message like that? Would it be active in supporting its congregations if they joined the fight against ICE's reign of terror? Does the UCCan recognize itself in the criticisms leveled in that message? That is, I think, what @chansen is getting at by putting in this thread.

I believe a few United Churches have taken stands with protesters facing violence from the RCMP in some stand offs, but I am not sure. My memory is becoming less reliable.

There is a lot of dislikable activity going on out there in the name of good ... that just isn't.

Then brute forte always has it alure ... eh?
