Yikes, that band can really swing. And Gunhild herself is a very versatile musician. Never heard of her before but I'm glad I finally did.

Funny how the Irish eliminated the Scottish drones ...

Jah hoo' dah thunque IT? Of course it is very unba pt-ist ...

Lindsay Stirling has to be one of the most exciting young artists out there. Her dynamic style and lively music set her apart. Not to mention that she does it playing an instrument, the violin, that isn't very common in popular music outside of fiddles in country and folk. And she's a fairly accomplished dancer to boot.

I've raved about a capella group Pentatonix before so I'll just go straight to the music. Here they team up with country legend Dolly Parton on one of her biggest hits.

Kind of like Onix, or the devil taking over Ur-man ... the gods of love are fickle ... disturbing cool souls ...

I talked up thread about Amanda Palmer. She has a new video out for a recording of "Winken, Blinken, and Nod" she did with her father. It's a lovely video and a nice version of the song.

Family Notes: The baby is Ash, son of Amanda and her husband, fantasy author Neil Gaiman. The dark haired girl who keeps reading books at one end of the table is Maddy Gaiman, Neil's youngest child from his previous marriage.

It's not always easy to cover a popular standard and really make it your own. "Hallelujah", good as it is, is becoming one of those standards. Enter Pentatonix. The a capella group has a unique, powerful sound that is well-suited to Cohen's classic and their new recording of the song nails it.

I am a sucker for romance on some levels so this next video hits on that level. It's a medley of love songs from Disney movies sung by an actual couple, Kirstin Maldonado (of Pentatonix) and her fiance Jeremy Michael Lewis, backed by a capella ensemble Vocative. Kirstin does not solo enough in Pentatonix for me so I love hearing her voice at full throttle here. As much as I love the group, I would also love to hear a solo album by her.

This duo is from Fort St John, BC. If you get a chance to see one of their shows you will have a great time. Twin Peaks which is Lindsey Pratt and Hillary Shore are sassy and fun.

One does not generally expect to hear a country band covering Queen, but The Band Perry does it very well here.

Admittedly, Fat Bottomed Girls actually has a rhythm and melody that works well with a country sound.
