Trump is a very flawed human being who shouldn’t have been handed power (it’s both dangerous, and sad). ICE are a collection of flawed human beings - modelling themselves after his intentions - who shouldn’t have been handed power.

If God created everything - even people who behave like rabid beasts - is he off the blame hook?

If this has happened because we’ve historically projected these qualities onto God, the solution in my mind is that we do the opposite. That would let God off the blame hook. It’s what Jesus was trying to do. We’re told he already did it but people insist on carrying forth a nasty projection of God that keeps crucifying Jesus - by promoting violence - not projecting what he intended.

I don’t think I cast the first stone. I didn’t say we weren’t all flawed, I said I think he’s particularly dangerous - it’s evident - and he shouldn’t have been handed power. Not only is he damaged but he’s bent on destruction. He needs to not have such power before he and the rest of the world can heal. I actually don’t wish lasting ill upon him, just to keep him away from having such destructive power over the rest of the world. I hope he can heal. I just think he and the power of the presidency are a bad mix - and bad for the world.

Father Boyle’s comment that if you approach people with “you’re evil/ a sinner” you’re blocking possibility for discussion and improvement - I think it’s true. I used the jargon myself upthread but “misguided” or “mistaken” are probably better words than evil and sinner. Or just try to have discussions and leave the judgmental talk out if we can. Easier said than done sometimes.
