To my way of thinking any one that uses the law and lawyers to defend a 'personal' ideology when many others languish in prisons for lack of legal defense does not demonstrate a character of love and goodwill towards human kind ... therefore hypocritical.

Perhaps I have no idea of how this process works - was it unavoidable for Gretta to hire legal counsel - could she not have represented herself? The UCC is always talking about money - maintaining 'churches' - staff - buying and selling of properties - charitable tax breaks - soliciting in the name of 'With or Without God' and so on. It appears that most 'voluntary' donations go towards covering church incorporation expenses with not much left for 'good will' towards 'good works' ... West Hill United Church - Financial FAQS (current or not) tells a picture of a 'business as usual'.

Gretta to my mind is a hypocrite - not because she calls herself an atheist - but because she calls herself a 'leader'. If she has a care for justice - she could better raise funds to defend people that are truly being persecuted for their ideologies - she is not one of them. Getting fired from the UCC is not any different in my eyes than getting fired from any other political institution.

My curiosity around this particular political theater is more about why Chansen remains so invested in wanting to assign relevance where there is none. It is nothing new that the secular population wishes to 'legalize' the erasure of 'God' from church and state.

The united church of canada brings a lawyer to the table. Why should Gretta not?
If your livelihood is being placed under review you would be a fool not to consult with a lawyer.
In addition, there is a lot of jargon and paperwork at foot with interpretations, I would think that Gretta would want a team from theologians to lawyers as would her supporters.

I assume that means rejecting their charitable donation status.
Some have advocated for that.

It would also mean things like, seperating from any grants. Hmm, what about CPP for ministers, and OHIP for staff? Separate there at the individual, or only at the institutional level?

Do we have strange behaviour ... alien intellects in the church ... is thought potentially dark to the burning emotions?

Determinate to .... on what side of that red line you stand ... what does irrational emotions do to a character? Yet emotions often appear first ...

I have read once through the act ... I think I understand it well enough to realize that - Gretta does not have a Case that she could 'legally' win ... but read if for yourself and decide ... if you were in her position ... would you hire a lawyer against this corporation?

The trial is scheduled to begin this November. It was going to take place last November but was cancelled when the church could not form a Formal Hearing Committee. There have also been several unsuccessful mediations.
'Atheist minister' church trial due after three years

Found this using Google. It's the first I've heard of anything moving forward, but I don't recognize the source.

Can anyone confirm this?

Has it been three years already? Nice to have a bit of an overview, but this author doesn’t strike me as going very deep with it.
The Observer is not the national magazine of the UCC, and has reported quite balanced.
His quotes of Gretta even appear to me a bit superficial.
Of course, it can’t go before a secular court, because nothing has happenend yet. It would only go there if they fire her and she decides to fight it. And secular courts will ot debate about if God exists or not, but only if a church can fire someone who doesn’t believe and preach what they expect her to. So her chances are not that great. Maybe they will offer her a nice retirement package. I don’t think it would have any chance in a secular court.

I have seen the article and noticed it is does not have a date. I am wondering if the article might be a year old. Hard to say because the one comment (Talk) seems to be recent.

AFAIK if it goes to secular court the issue will be whether or not the Church followed its own policy properly.

Why should a church more concerned with conforming activities survive when the Golden Rule including Two Side of the extremes ... doesn;t ... and thus decrease in diversity as desired by divine powers of duality?

These may multiply into poly tech ... varied etudes! For years we've been restricted about studying the heavens and far out stuff beyond the centered authorities ...

Maybe there's something out there and something more tuit than nothing ... thus the look deep into those ayes of void --- Orphan Anis!

Is there a point tuit!

In September 2017, the review was scheduled for November 2017. They are exactly where they were 1 year ago.

We should totally take bets on that happening.

With concerns of a Nous Church structure ... something is bound to alter ... thus the railings !

Railhens as marsh birds ...

Yep. Her actual beliefs won't really be an issue at that point. It will be all about church policy and labour law. A bit of a snooze fest save for the stakes and outcome.
