I believe, in the Hebrew Scriptures, it is a story for us to learn from.

Airclean--The words come from GODS word The Bible. They are Said by His Christ Jesus . I myself believe.

Given the prevalence of flood stories in ancient mythology I suspect they all grew out of a lived experience of a major flood that destroyed a significant part of a civilization, but not global. In fact they may refer back to a variety of different flood events.

however I think that the best chance for finding any remembered (and then theologized/mythologized) history in Genesis starts with or after Chapter 11 where we move into the Patriarch stories. Some might suggest that this history starts in Exodus.
