Perhaps if privacy is a big concern you shouldn’t take a job where the public have the right to visit your home and the grounds. And where the job entails meeting and greeting and presiding over countless government functions

Could make a private person prone to isolationism very ante Sae ...

The latest bombshell about our GG is that the government did not call the places she previously worked to get a reference or a feel for her leadership skills

prety big job to get just in your name recogniton

and the two places, one a crown corporation that runs the Montreal science museum and the other the Canadian Olympic committee both have lots of negatives. The same issues of not being able to manage people

i get that. Not everyone can manage people. It’s a skill set.
so how on earth did she get the job, why did Trudeau choose her when there was a committee prospects to find and assess likely candidates

it should be interesting today to see if she does anything out of the ordinary during the throne speech

Honestly? I doubt checking references is something that is commonly done for something like this. Do you think Mulroney checked references on Schreyer or Trudeau Sr. checked references on Sauve? Harper on Johnston? This is a political appointment, not a corporate recruiting process. It's about their public image and experience and, at times, politics, not how they performed on past jobs.

She was seemingly an ideal candidate in terms of the political goals going in for a feminist government. She checked those boxes well -- astronaut, role model for girls, bilingual etc. I'm disappointed in her, but basically she's a figurehead and probably shouldn't be managing much. I thought being an astronaut required more self management skills though. She sounds stressed.

She did seem like quite an ideal candidate. Too bad they didn’t do some checking. For her rep and ourselves

and I don’t mean references like applying for a job. But vetting. Like judges, like candidates for government, like CEOs

these people are carefully vetted. What is in the past we might not like

her charge of assault
her charge of vehicular manslaughter. It doesn’t matter that they were dropped. The government should have known better to manage it
her quick exit from a crown corporation
her quick exit from the Olympic committee

these are things that should have been looked into

now her reputation is in tatters We have an inept GG. Trudeau has egg on his face for not following an established committee recommendation

I too hD high hopes for her. And have been disappointed

disappointed in all these news stories

disappointed about her expenses

disappointed about her doing less than any other GG before Covid

in fact though the government does have a process to make recommendations about appointments. Like they do for judges
Trudeau just did not use it, he make a snap decision that was actually terrible. For her and for us

good grief, they try to thoroughly vet candidates for elections yet they didn’t vet the Governor General. At all

in light of all we now know about her previous work experiences it throws a bit of question about the charges of domestic violence. Charges were dropped but it adds some fuel to that fire

One of the issues with all these political appointments is that they often take someone with good credentials in one type of jobs and give them a totally different job. Previous governors such as Jeanne Sauvé and Ed Schreier were already in politics. As such they are used to functions where a lot of it is talking and keeping your personnel on your side. Some of the most controversial people were those whose career had a totally different perspective.

An astronaut doesn't "work" often as most of their time is spent training and rehearsing. But when they work, they are task oriented. And they are doing very little PR. Managing the Science Centre is a bit of a challenging task, but it involves much more public relations (both with employees and the public), and in a way, being governor general is even more problematic because there is nothing to do except PR. So how do you keep yourself motivated and how to you keep your personnel on your side becomes a much more challenging question.

This is an odd report on CBC web site. The investigation is on going. Ore people than expected are being interviewed. Ore people have quit or gone on leave

and the GG is hiring outsiders, people referred to as exempt staff , for roles that are normally filled by the public śrvice

odd

Sneak peak of scathing report this morning in CBC web site

just flashed now that she and her secretary are stepping down. No more info

Apparently, this is good riddance to bad rubbish. Hope they have some new criteria in place which incorporate leadership abilities.

Trudeau ignored the parliament committee to assess a GG. He had a celebrity to install. But they never assessed her work history. Never looked at what her reputation was. And now he has egg in his face for a terrible choice and she has lost her reputation

Despite resigning because of a confirmed toxic workplace environment, the G.G. will receive a six figure pension for life......

Well, that is what she signed up for. You would like to think that resigning in disgrace should cut that but contracts are contracts. And no way was Trudeau going to fire her for cause
