Spiritual Advisor

I was recently able to participate in a smudge and also learned something new. For some, there is a pattern (for lack of better word) in moving the smoke over the body. You "wash" the eyes for clear sight, the ears to listen, the head for clarity and the heart or body, etc. It is quite powerful and moving. Of course this can be explained much better than what I am doing. I only hope to convey the idea.

I didn't see the funeral. When I heard of spiritual advisor, I thought of the more pastoral relationship and not the evangelizing relationship.

My experience with proselytizing at a funeral was my grandmother's funeral. She was most closely tied with the Anglican tradition and secondarily with the United Church traditions. The people who lead the funeral treated us as if we had never ever set foot in a church and needed to be saved. The only mention of my grandmother was a sentence saying the person didn't know her and that he understood she'd had a good long life. He went on to continue to save our souls. It was highly offensive.

Exactly, Jim :3

It reminds me of

The local Health Care Authority here used to have an awesome program that was empirically tested and had spiritual advisors -- the program was so successful that other organizations from around the world met with the people who made the program.

Too bad, due to financial woes, the program was dropped :(

These spiritual advisors were well-trained in helping to care for people in the way that these people needed/wanted. So if someone wanted a Catholic mass, the spiritual advisor would be able to help.

Another awesome example of patient-centred care :3
