On in my car right now:

Never For Ever (1980) - Kate Bush's third album and full of early fan favorites like Babooshka, Army Dreamers, Violin

Hey, I'm Just Like You (2019) - The latest from twin pop stars Tegan & Sara. They apparently found two old cassettes of demos for songs they wrote and recorded back in high school and pulled out the best of the bunch, did some rewriting, and voila! Terrific new Tegan & Sara album. And it goes hand-in-hand with High School, their first book, which a memoir from both their perspectives (alternating chapters) of their high school days.

As I lay here on my couch winding down for the night, I am watching a concert by English singer-songwriter Hope Winter. I discovered her maybe a year ago and went through her channel at that time. She has really matured as an artist over her short career and, to my delight, seems to have settled on a light mix of jazz and pop as her style. Here is the full launch concert for her new EP.

And if you jump to 10:12, you will find a rarity, if not a one-of-a-kind: A song about Kelowna, BC by a non-Canadian. :DApparently Hope's brother and sister-in-law got married there.

Want an intriguing, attractive streaming playlist? Check out Tom Allen's "Shift" collection.

Having listened to Tom for years, I can just imagine. Does it include his intros? Because those are sometimes better than the music itself.

Sadly, no. We should request that. I have learned more about music, particularly about the structure of it, from Tom, than I ever have from another DJ/announcer.

Wooooow!! Echo in the Canyon!

Best “tribute” music I’ve heard since Billy Bragg and Wilco made Mermaid Avenue - which was a collection of uncovered poetry written but never put to music by Guthrie...and they did a brilliant job of bringing his soul through their performance. This is like that for me...
(song originally by Carole King and Gerry Goffen. Sung by Jakob Dylan and Beck!)

Half Moon Run is a band I really only know from a couple songs that come up on CBC2 from time to time and that I do like. So, I spent my exercise time tonight (a good chunk of it anyhow) watching the live set they did for CBC Music's YouTube channel to promote their latest album. And it's a beauty. Every member is a multi-instrumental threat and they play a nice blend of styles. Worth checking out.

Two new albums on my phone right now courtesy of Hoopla.

Three Chords and The Truth - Van Morrison

The 74 year-old Irish singer-songwriter just keeps on keeping on. A great album of new blues-inflected tunes from a musical legend.

True Love : A Celebration of Cole Porter - Harry Connick Jr

The New Orleans bred singer and pianist pays tribute to one of the twentieth century's greatest songwriters. His singing is terrific as ever and his piano work on an instrumental of "Begin the Beguine" is sublime.

Oooh Van Morrison, one of my faves, thanks I'm going to check it out.

Haven't actually started listening to it yet, but the Leonard Cohen channel on YouTube has audio only for the entirety of Thank You for the Dance, his posthumous final album, plus the one video so far released.

And thanks for the Moody's track @GeoFee . That's one of my favorite of their songs.

Oh damn, that's a good album. Nothing like going out on a high note. And the documentary about the making of the album that ends the playlist is a nice touch. Apparently Leonard recorded his vocals between the release of You Want it Darker and his death, leaving Adam to do the rest.

Oh to see the subtleties in the lyrics ... few are interested in the word(s)! As stated in Hallelujah ... someone didn't like the music ... must have been the messenger ... Hermes?

This was an out of body experience.

I watched the whole "Stop Making Sense" concert (from 1984) on youtube. Here are my three favs. In "Heaven" the female vocalist(s) might be behind a curtain somewhere. They're in the rest of the show and they sing beautifully. Oddly enough, I don't think I could ever get tired of that song. It hits all the right notes and harmonies.

David Byrne has so much freakin energy! They all do - but he amazed me! I knew he had a unique performing style but I this is the most I've seen in years and years - I didn't realize he could dance that well - and do aerobics the entire time! How incredible! I almost forgot about these guys.

In the context of imitation is the best flattery ... what happens to the freedom of exploration of all domains ... inclusive of beliefs in madness? Then we get questions about the watering down of forms to serve hegemony ... the journey of life that leaves one with the sense of Unsatisfied Soul? Sheer madness of transparency ... have you ever seen examples of people mimicking or mocking tyrants so as to get a head?

Then there is the dark genre of To Kill a Mockingbird ... and exemptions of those that took to high flight away from such conned formations by powerful academics (hardly conforming to humanitarian needs) that didn't really know up from down as in the attached article:

Consider the strangeness of the personality disorder from the country of Galilee ... and do we really know where that spook is doing the haunting? Ghosts of sparing nature ... that whip us out of here when enough is enough ... one way or the other!

What do we really understand about the essence of sol? In my books it is an eternally open ended question ... considering that as emotionally disturbed to great depths ... there in no end to the rationale of the why and wherefore ... when we'd sooner deny disorder's existence.

There ... does that put some order to the Eris of a Rose ... that is thorns as a crown? Roses are demanding flowers ... like snow flowers ... or the mental image of someone coming out of Alpine highs ... Hei Dei? One should wake to the abstract Deis! The Shadow prevails as doubt; if encountered ... just doubt ... for we really know little!

Consider partisan disruption of politix ... is it mad too?
