Ryan Hauck, Do We Need a 'god'? If so, What Kind?

This is exactly the same type of question that was asked to John Dominic Crossan, when pushed on the God issue , with out man to project a God on to the Cosmos, does God exist?

Crossans answer was No

Considering that God is eternal and exists outside of space or time, I would say Crossan is wrong. IMHO

Edit: We do know that a when a tree falls in the forest it still makes a sound.

I'm not sure about Crossan's view. I think that science and faith are two totally different but valid ways of seeing the same thing and we have to find agreement with that in between if humanity is to survive. I really do believe that because we are humans with human brains we all each have a tendency, or our brains do, to predominantly see things from either a left or right brained perspective. Atheists and religious alike. The left brainers have to see order and precise logic and laws in their views in order for them to be valid. The left side has to make up a logical systematic explanation for what the right side perceives which is just whole and as it is - or the left side rejects it. So then you get the people like unsafe on the religious end and Dawkins on the atheist end, both very legalistic and insistent, about the right and wrong way to see things -or you get Peter Rollins on the religious end or artists who see life through an artists lens on the non-religious end - and most everyone else's brains favouring one side or another to varying degrees, but not fully, whether they are religious or not. It's the right side that sees meaning in metaphor, whether looking at science or religion, which the left side will scornfully assess as making stuff up - when living metaphors are essential aspects of being human and creative.

*shrug*

The notion that God is a human creation is an old one. I would not go that far. I would say that a human-like personal God might be (probably is), but "God" as the embodiment of the creative forces of existence is quite real and present.

I'd say it would be more of an informal school of spiritual humanist philosophy than a religion but that's really picking nits.

Yes, that's it: an informal school of spiritual humanist philosophy. I certainly am a Saganist in that spirit. :)

Humanist philosophy? The love of knowledge and wisdom in an ideal? Seems more reasonable than one demanding irrational followings ... sort of akin to Beau Gest!

Then earthy authority despises thinking fractals ... they might contemplate on what the furies are up Tue ...

But common folk can't say that ... as pagans they are limited by law ...

I don't mean Saganism as an organized religion, I'd never go for that. I mean Saganism as an unorganized (not disorganized) religion. More like a movement. Science-based spirituality, but also drawing from all other spiritual traditions and wisdom schools.
Herm, Socratus is a quantum physicist and a friend. For some time, he and I have, in this science forum, chatted about philosophy, theology and physics.
One thread on this theme, not to mention others, now has over 9,500,000 hits.

My answer is: "Yes, God and Soul have physical background
and can be explained by physical formulas, equations and laws."
I will try to prove my position.

Question: what is God?
===================

THANKS, SOCRATUS:

UNI-THEISM--theology of a unified humanity. Welcome to the FBook group on this theme!

IN MY OPINION:

G ~ GENERATES

O ~ ORGANIZES

D ~ DELIVERS--that which--

like the Kingdom of G~O~D--is from within and is Will-based Agape-Love!
Generous, Omni-present, Omniscient, Omni-potent & Delightful

AH! GOD is the Great, and open Oneness that we all do now Desire.
This warms our bodies, minds and hearts with a great celestial fire.

BTW, on both sides of us, we Kings have GOD-like neighbours.

One family comes from Japan, the other comes from Iran.
Gracious, Out-going & Decent it seems,
And Always friendly human beings.
Back a numbers of days ago
We all had lots and lots of snow.
And wouldn't you know they made the snow go.
As quick as a nod, as though one with G O D,
This helped us survive and be fully alive, at eighty-five,
Because they ...
Graciously ... Opened our ... Driveway!

================
We two happy seniors
Sure do appreciate our juniors
Thanks neighbours!

Apart from direct experience, which can be profound but is notoriously unreliable, the scientific method is the most reliable method of finding truth we humans have yet devised.

I apprenticed as a blacksmith at age 14 and didn't have the benefit of a higher education, but read a book on high school physics in my middle age. When I learned that everything consists of energy, and that energy is the eternal basic substance of the universe, I jumped high with joy. "How spiritual!" I thought, and wondered why this is not being taught as a spiritual theory. Then, with the recent discovery of the Higgs Boson, I thought that this is a manifestation of a or THE transcendental Cosmic force that transforms energy into different states and forms. Transcendental energy: energy that continuously transforms itself while remaining an indivisible singularity: "This is the the recipe for limitless creation!" I thought with a jolt of ecstasy, "as well as a pretty good explanation for God!"

Because many of my friends didn't believe me when I said that I don't have a university degree, not even a highschool education, I invented one. On my facebook page it says that I have a degree in Spirituality from the University of Abbottobad. Sometimes I say I have a BS degree from TU. When they ask what university that is, I answer "the university of universities: The Universe!" After this they usually don't ask what a BS degree is. :)

BS ?????????
This comes before the MS and the PHD ... which is piled even higher and deeper ...

Metaphorically this is piled just lye so ... and is the only way small minds that start at nothing can get anywhere ... as Muse tardy ascended thingys ...

Eve ND Tue Allah they will come down for a stint of rest ... as arresting!

Why we have that fabric called toile ... some work to get over first ... as somebody made a Job of life and it went all crappy for the paradigm!

Well, Luce, I went to some spiritual lectures and discussions, and realized that these guys are just faking it, and I thought I could outfake them any day. So that's what I've been doing ever since, faking it, along with the best of them. But I know that I'm faking it, whereas some of them take themselves and their bulls**t seriously. :sneaky:

Such is the nature of people that have to have something absolute ... even a ly'n trend ... while some of us can deal with the abstract ... it just goes on growing and changing ... like a fecund psyche!

Some absolutes say there is no such thing ... so they won't have to ponder the possibility of quanta ... chance occurrences?

Word is like that and generally accepted as occult (i.e. dark)! It can create a spectre of thoughts ... in others nothing at all! Is that a small chit or what?
