Thought: Empathy for the house-cat who occasionally gets put outside to navigate the alley but is still a house-cat. That’s just how it is, it’s their primary disposition.

I think that’s the human ambition/ attitude that got the world to such an imbalanced state, and it wasn’t by being universally taught that “knowledge is evil” - because clearly we weren’t universally taught that or we wouldn’t have the technologies we have.

Simplistic thought: We have a capitalist economic system which is dependent on units of production. That is why we produce so much excess in the developed world. All the excess goods in stores and warehouses have already been produced whether we buy them or not - that’s reality. The majority of it is waste, much of it toxic and/ or non biodegradable whether it sits in our home or sits in a store or landfill. It gets there eventually. We need a different system of production.

Reminds me of a couple of animated presentations by British academic/ economist David Harvey over 15 years ago.

Cats are Obligate Carnivores. They weren't meant to be vegan. I had to live with 5 vegan cats for a couple of months before moving into my current place, and I felt terrible for them. Probably worse than necessary, but nothing seemed right. Their poop wasn't right. They were on a constant quest for bugs. They were loved and taken to the vet at the smallest provocation, but it all just seemed so wrong. Is it abuse?

They are also obligate cannibals

Yikes. Well, there could be a universe where animals are vegan and none of them are cannibals. Also, in this one, good reason to stay a house cat, and be fed cat food (made with the meat humans waste).

If you are determined to have a vegetarian cat, your kitty will need a dietary supplement. Dogs, on the other hand, do just fine on vegetarian diets.

Kind of hard to believe, when you think about how much they love meat and bones.

I wouldn’t. I’d give them regular cat food. Didn’t like it when the outdoor cat I had as a kid would bring us “gifts”, occasionally.
