If the future used to look bright but now it looks bleak, does that mean it might turn out bright?

Kidding!

A hopefully brighter future is preferable to the one Chris Korda discusses. Our own minds have to get us there with lots of conscious effort. She put lots of effort into expressing her thoughts on why it isn’t going to be brighter. But who knows yet, Luce?

I have stressed that I don't know to those that claim authority ... and yet there always seems a larger authority yet out there on the other side of what authorities claim to be the misunderstood Machiavellian course on how to clip the folks a good bit as if they were chickens to be slaughtered in quintessence ... a fifth part of the 7th thing? Are you familiar with the icon of light and lamb in the Hebrew system of classification of old signs?

It is said to be something that looks like a sprout on top of a crooked stick ... or sometimes like a co bra ... and there we cleave ... (whatever that means) about the boom or bust ego no Minney! A wondering psyche is best to ride out of here ... resembles Pegasus that is nothing pelagic ... nonetheless deep as none has dug it up yet ... the word said ... and then we lost it! All is pas Z IONs ... disseminated in neuroticism ... some say this is a worrisome state ... needing mysterious times ... thus we are screwed with in the heat of the night! Causes me night sweats that come in suites ...

This is a young leaning neighbourhood, where I am - met several people who don’t want children. Too late for me now but even when I was in my 20s my first serious boyfriend said he didn’t want to have kids but he wouldn’t (ever) become a parent unless the child was adopted because, given the state of the world, to do otherwise was cruel and that it’s selfish just to need to have your own kids to continue the gene pool and that humans should override that impulse (and double up on birth control). I used to think that was a weird/ different opinion but I saw his point. That was in about ‘97 so, there are 25 yr olds who were born at that time and I would not be surprised if several agree! In fact, I know several agree, just from the commentary out there.

But I’m also glad I never became a parent with that guy. Oof. He was intense. A few yrs older. He was anti capitalist left before I knew what that was and I did everything wrong in his eyes, back then. He was constantly course-correcting my consumer choices, music, books - and he annoyed the heck out of me. And told me I was stupid. Wasn’t fun to be around a lot of the time. But he also had a positive impact on me looking back. I learned things. Go figure. (Was a weird way to learn them though)

Do you ever wonder “Had this difficult thing not happened to me,or difficult time, would I be worse off?” Sometimes I conclude yes. Other times I think the opposite.

Yeah. I just meant the idea that if couples want to parent, they should adopt instead of being interested in carrying on their own genes - which he felt was a selfish (and primitive but could be overcome) impulse and irrelevant to the more rational and though out wish to actually raise kids who need parents. Instead of bringing more kids into the hard world so you can have “your own” progeny who look like you, adopt ones already born and give them a good home - even if you’re capable of reproducing, you don’t have to, to be parents. That was a new concept to me I think - that it was selfish to want kids that carry your genes (especially just for the sake of that). Many gay couples and couples who can’t reproduce might agree with the latter - but that might not have occurred to me at the time. Plus, it’s harder to adopt than it is to just get pregnant (if you’re able to) and have babies, because there is an adoption process and review of potential parents. I was still pretty young, not in any rush to have kids, so it was really not a pressing issue except as something think about.

Anyway, we broke up and I’m glad we weren’t parenting together, regardless.

I sometimes feel like I missed out by not being a parent but I was never ready except one brief window, I thought I was (but it would’ve been really difficult for everybody). It’s for the best.

Parenting or not is a big decision. I appreciate those who actually give it some thought!
We took a 'middle of the road' approach and grew two children (only enough to replace us), and adopted two 'hard to place' children. Overall it worked well for us. The biggest drawback was financial! All four kids grew up to be capable of earning money and chose a way to do that, honest and basically kind.

I sort of parented by default. I wanted to get married (I don't really know why, now, except expectations), he particularly wanted kids, so I went along with it.

When we split (turns out, neither of us had much facility for intimate relationships), it was pretty apparent to everyone except maybe him, that I was the marginally more adequate parent, so the bulk of it fell to me. He spent time with them in the early years, then largely lost interest, in supporting them either in person or financially. He died owing me thousands in unpaid child support.

So, no, my parenting wasn't intentional, nor terribly well thought out. But they are both kind and smart and capable of looking after themselves.

Kudos to you, kay, for adopting. It's not for the faint of heart. It's not rows on rows of cuddly infants to "choose from". It's coming to terms with what you can add to the quality of a young life that has probably started in less-than-ideal circumstances, and perhaps knowing your limitations.

When deciding to adopt our thoughts weren't particularly noble. We thought a family of four would be great and I didn't want to spend much time being pregnant. I had also been a bit taken aback by the speed with which my sister and brother added to the world's population. My concerns about over population didn't go away over the years. At that time it was fairly easy to adopt a little one - doubly so if they were classified 'hard to place'. Those little souls were the indigenous, African, Eastern, physically different in some way babies and children. Our two fitted in the first group and now it seems we're supposed to have been 'selfish culture thieves'. The kids are glad they weren't thrown into the foster care system. One has a relationship with the birth mother and family, the other could be in contact but chooses not to. We respect their choices.

I like kids and appreciate what they stand for (our future) but even back in the 60's and 70's I had doubts ... then it is said Jesus had doubts ... may have posed as a poltergeist!

Is it shocking how many pious have not doubts at all about blind decision making?

The world we live in rn just makes me want to say “Soylent Green is people”. This whole C7 issue is not only wrong it’s really creepy. Maybe not that level of creepy - but not that far off. Give it 10 yrs. Human Rights Watch put out a report about concerns around disabled people and climate disaster/ planning around climate change, and things aren’t looking good. Nobody seems to be planning for our rescue. We’ll be the first to go and because we’re at at peak capitalism, nobody will care. I don’t like feeling less valuable as a human being because I’m disabled. Who would like feeling less valuable based on unalienable characteristics, because the public decided you weren’t worth caring about? They’ll just insist disabled deaths are compassionate without checking how we feel about that on the whole, and receive affirmation by TV ads and such. It’s not pleasant. It has a significant impact on my sense of self worth.

There is that whole golden rule with an eye staring us down for not dealing with both pillars of Christianity ... the advantaged sense they need do nothing for the alternate ... as it is the way it is ... because of a cluster that grab for it ... Je Zu identifies this with a coine or weird currency ... indicating there's another side ... mental aspect? Many have trashed and wasted the light of that in Gehenna ... a tattoo? Som much to mentally gather beyond the physical realm ...

Some say mindless function, other say heartless and either way ... it just goes down ... thus the below the horizon concept in the Black Hole Theory! This may all be psychotics and thus dark and unseen except when resting ... the very presence of the unseen makes some folk neurotic and worrisome ... ANis field ...

I realize I post a lot about a particular topic. The more expansion happens, the closer to March we are (due for expansion to mental illness) the worse I feel. Lots of anxiety, anger, sadness. I’m worried for my friends, neighbours, family and myself - though I know of no plans for any of us to apply for it. But it bothers me that it exists, looming, to catch people when they’re down and feel helpless. That bothers me more than anything right now. I think this law - watching it slide where it has (and nobody I knew believing that it would) - has been one of the most awful ongoing events in my adult life. I’m totally disillusioned with this country. We do not have bragging rights.

Also nobody seemed to care when it expanded to the physically disabled who weren’t dying. Like it was a given that our lives matter less. But now that it’s expanding into mental illness people are starting to wake up. It’s not ok to have it for the former or the latter - but - better late to notice than never?

Some say life is harder to take than death when you stop up and reconsider the options!

Then, is there any party that will assist mental illness due to the stress that parties put on the little people as they put them down?

It seems all so confusing ... just to teach us about chaos? Some parties believe love is chaos and thus we should settle and ponder ... the humour of dead people that now live only in our heads for some alien reason!

Thus any medium collapses in fallacy ... deep and spatial ...

Thus wee the people depart and will anybody be left that knows how to perform the chit that must be done? Conclusion: we are our own worst ... well you know!

I have all these wee folk in my mind as a mysterious place where the powers will not go ... thus a safe haven! Abstract spatial modes are said to be dark ...

Jumping in late with some random thoughts on adoption. My sister adopted two children from China. The youngest one suffers from mental health concerns, particularly depression and an eating disorder. She has been told by her doctors that, with her continued purging, she is dying. My sister couldn't love her any more if they shared genetics. But, as difficult as it is to raise your own flesh and blood kids, sometimes there is that unknown factor when you adopt that makes you wonder...how could we have helped her before it got to this point. On my husband's side of the family, his niece and her wife fostered an older girl with the intention of adopting. But things went horribly wrong (don't know the details) that affected the couple's relationship, so they decided not to adopt. She had lived with them for two years. Many years ago I had wanted to foster, but my husband is not one for taking in people; I would take in everyone, but would need help curbing that tendency because it would become too much for me. So...I'm not noble. And we raised three instead of the replacement two. I love the thought of parenting by default, because I'm pretty sure that's what I did. And even though they are in their 30s now, I parent by worrying. Ya...that's effective!
