LOL. I've been hearing about these microlabels but don't really know them. It seems to be a tendency in any large social grouping that is diverse or diversifying, though. I see it in metal music all the time, with bands trying to differentiate by starting new subgenres or using previously unused combinations of subgenres. So something like "progressive symphonic alternative death metal". Gay metal is not yet an actual genre but I do know some LGBTQ+ metal musicians. Most famous is Rob Halford, the vocalist of Judas Priest, who came out and became a voice for gay metalheads during his stint as a solo artist in the 90s.

And there are a variety of bands in a variety of genres that do identify as, or are identified by fans and media as, "queer" bands. The Last Dinner Party is one, with several lesbian women and a non-binary member. I am actually a big fan since discovering them late last year. Not my usual musically, but quite a talented bunch with some terrific tunes.
