I've always found the tradition of changing one's name a bit archaic. I've never done it. It's not the norm in Quebec. It always implied possession to me and that never sat right.
Understandable. I changed my own name though.

I preferred my husband's surname because my own was difficult to pronounce (even for me) and I didn't like the way it flowed with my first name.

How enigmatic that we don't know this activity? How di the activity start ... the evolution of your name in an unchangeable sphere of influence?

We carrie names quite unconsciously by times ... carries being holes to stuff them into! Another mystery ... unresolved!
