It seems that someone at Wesley United Church in Lincoln (basically Welland, ON) complained to the host that their outdated contact info was on the site. I don't monitor the site or email it's attached to very often so I wasn't aware it was offline for the past couple weeks.

I've removed the info from that church, and may just remove all the church pages to keep it in compliance.

That said, I don't know when it will go back up. I've sent in the request.

I can't believe it's been up for more than 11 years, and hasn't cost me a thing.

We've had those complaints the odd time before that I've passed on to you. I assume someone is finding them by Googling? I haven't looked at the archive in ages. Used to pop in occasionally when I wanted to check on something I recalled from the distant past. Had some fun re-reading old threads, too.

Like I recall saying to you before, I'm not especially happy with the UCCan in general so I've been in no hurry to comply with any of their requests, including for me to take the entire archive down. They can pound sand over that attempt and I think I used more aggressive language than that when I finally got around to responding to their request.

But I don't have anything against the individual churches, so I guess I'll just delete all of that content. It was never my intent to save the church directory in the first place. My archive software did that on its own.

Took a look around and there are more free hosting sites I can take the archive to if Altervista doesn't bring the site back or if others manage to get it offline.

Is there always something that someone will wish taken down?

Hold on to all your strings, threads and other affiliations ... entanglement is assured ... when all in heaven without a care or thought!

People will always complain about what I do and write. If violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, offense is the second last.

Apparently my request that the archive be restored went to the wrong email address. I've rectified that.

If they don't bring it back, I'll find at least two other free hosts for it. If it's just about church pages, I've deleted them all. If it's a UCCan attempt to keep the archive offline, they'll lose that fight as well.

UCC and other forms of piety are deteriorating in their conflicts ... reaching for a melt down ... norms; ordinary folk are seeing there is little virtue there as the top dogs do as dogs do ... get roasted! Thus end fires ... or pyres in a pious sense ... pi*oute?

It is a desert weed ... do the phonetics and howl ... all is between the buns! Voi dite ... so it goes and we miss it of mist dite ... unspoked? Just the rim or a fringe ... how word does go round ... vert egos!

They seem satisfied that I removed their church info page, and all the church pages, in fact.

I've specifically requested it, but now we wait to see if they will actually go through with reporting their concerns addressed and Altervista restores the archive. It's on the reporting party to let Altervista know the pages have been deleted. Which is weird because they can't see that the pages have been deleted while the site is offline.

What has me confused is the reporting email address is edfred372 AT gmail. Which seems pretty weird to me. I just hope this is a simple matter that gets resolved quickly and doesn't escalate.

Someone from the church board or council using their personal address it looks like. Not best business practice. Looks rather spammy or phishy. I would have had the office send it or something so it's under the church's address and has their sig on it. Really, there's no reason a church couldn't register a domain and give addresses in that domain to staff and officers. Well, other than a lot of churches probably don't have IT people as members so have to pay for help with stuff like that.

The archive is back up. I'll thank the Welland guy.
You've still got a link to cruxifusion.com in there, eh. It generates a "host not found" error now that you've taken crux down. If you ever do end up moving the archive, let us know the new address so I can update the post about it in Tips & Techniques.

Ah. Forgot about that. I had intended to redirect Cruxifusion dot com to Gretta's poetry. I'll try to get around to both of those soon.

Gretta will be happy to receive attention of any kind IMHO. She will likely see the humor in redirection of folks looking for the real Cruxifusion.

I had someone get in touch with me once thinking I was Cruxifusion, asking how they could find a new minister. I tood them how to reach the real Cruxifusion, but I should have lead with a lament that Gretta was still employed by another United Church and not looking for work after all. Or just offered the contact info for a Rev. G. Vosper.

There was so much potential there and I squandered it.
