How is he imprisoned? My 91 year old father in Ontario has had his wings clipped. He's not imprisoned.

@Ritafee here’s what’s opening back up in your province tomorrow. Haircuts included. These services and businesses have been deemed safe enough to reopen...proof that the measures are not forever, but require gradual lifting, and monitoring. (In BC many hair cutting businesses do not even want to reopen yet, even if they can.)

@Ritafee Your province is reopening plenty more than here. I just read clothing stores and local parks and playgrounds here were closed voluntarily...they didn’t have to. But now that they have been, Bonnie Henry wants to make sure everyone’s reopening plans are sound. I trust her (though I don’t trust anyone 100%, I trust her mostly). I’m not complaining...yet. If she goes too slow, I might. The biggest worry is opening up tourism, especially from the US...the lower mainland and here normally get a ton of tourists. We don’t want them back quite yet. One of the smartest things we did here was to halt the cruise ships and Washington State ferries early on. To keep them going would’ve been a horrific mistake. The harbour and downtown are not that big. Many of the tourist hot-spots are concentrated down there - downtown itself is normally where the cruise ship passengers roam around while they dock briefly (I’ve said before it’s not that unusual, most years, to run into the same tour group more than once in a day, too) - staffed by locals from all over town, and that would’ve spread covid like wildfire here. And I’m glad there are travel restrictions, still.

It seems that more businesses are open here than in other provinces. Michaels is open for instance, and it isn't in other provinces. Though, it's arguably an essential service.....

Hmmm. Arguably. For crafting addicts. Yeah, there is plenty open here. I think it was a sporting goods store I went past on my scooter last week. It was in one of shopping complexes near here and I hadn’t noticed it open before (I’m noticing a lot of things I never did before...but it’s bugging me...where was that? It has to be in one of three places near here) i’ve never shopped there. I just remember thinking it wasn’t essential and it was interesting that it was open. Obviously, not interesting enough to remember very well. Unless I dreamt it...lol. I do remember a line-up, and it looked like they were letting only one or two in at a time. It might’ve been Sport Check near the Shoppers Drug Mart. I’m having a hormonal brain fog...can’t remember. But yes, there’s enough open that i’’m not missing that much, realistically.

I just read that an antique shop here has been open the whole time. That’s not an essential service. But they were not told they had to close - and the owners feel that their store is spacious enough (and probably not really busy most days) to keep people adequately distanced.

I wonder if thrift stores will be a thing of the past. I hope not because they’re my favourite stores. Thrifting was/ is a bit of a fun hobby - always a treasure hunt - as well as a money saving way to shop for clothes and “decor”. There are lots of germs hanging around in them, inevitably, which my immune system seemed to handle just fine. I just washed and wiped down everything really well when I got home.

I remember!...it was a little bicycle/ sports shop in the complex where the bank was...the day I got locked out of using my debit card and had to ride up there in the rain. It was the nearest physical bank, but not my branch, and a bit off of my regular path. I guess bicycle shops are essential services if they do repairs or sell parts. Definitely, they would be, around here. (Phew! I was starting to worry I was losing it.)

@Ritafee . Nova Scotia had 38 Covid related deaths. All but six were in one nursing home. The nursing home has 460 residents. 300+ residents have Covid 19. We have 10 people in hospital, three of them in ICU. The low numbers are because we started restrictions way earlier than other Provinces.
The situation at the nursing home can only be handled ( because of cause, lots of staff is also sick ), because they shut down the hospital services early, so hospital staff is sent to the nursing home. Still, the daily 1-6 deaths are from that nursing home. What do you think would have happened if they had not restricted visitors?
There are ten facilities in NS that have cases of Covid 19, thankfully, only this one has the high death rate.
But maybe you think that being over 60 is a nice age and dying of Covid is just unavoidable. You could even say that its beneficial for society, all those no longer working will just make space for others and don’t need to be cared for anymore. There would be a lot of free rooms in nursing homes after Covid has gone through ( actually, less severe, but also a usual occurrence with regards to flu and other deaths like suicides in January. So, why trying to save lives?)

But maybe that is not at all what I think. What I think is that people die of many causes ... always have always will. Sometimes precautionary measures are absolutely necessary to avoid compounding risks. My elderly relatives are all in good hands and good places. I would rather that they die peacefully in their sleep than have to be 'treated' in a lock down scenario. So far so good. What I rail against is the fear mongering powers of control that are taking advantage of a health crisis to subjugate whole populations to be compliant with agenda's that they would otherwise have opposed. We will see where this leads one way or another ... signs are that the 'lock down' is doing more damage than good in relation to the already impoverished and sanctioned. Mandatory universal vaccination has always been my pet peeve. Not vaccination .... MANDATORY vaccination. There can be no denying that this 'crisis' has furthered that agenda ... that is just one small part of the agenda to further 'monitoring' of 'human capital' for the benefit of the few that wish to be 'masters' of the universe. To deny that there are people that seem to lack empathy or compassion exist and do 'conspire' to overcome resistance of the 'masses' by any means at their disposal - is willful ignorance of historical evidence that they do. That's it.

Garry and I went into Winnipeg on Friday to help my daughter move. Her employment has kept her busy round the clock as a manger of sales and services she is maintaining the essential open allowances (organic hygiene products) and keeping in check restricted ('esthetic')services. Moving in the times of Carona, even in Manitoba ... was 'unusually' complicated. None the less ... we got it done ... all of the people involved were considerate of each other's personal boundaries which we all affirmed one way or the other among ourselves. Not one of the people that I encountered during this move ... seemed unduly concerned about getting 'infected' ... but were considerate of 'not infecting'. The saddest part of the day was that Garry had thought that he would be allowed to take his father out for a walk but it turned out that he was not. Not a big deal ... just a bit sad ... they were looking forward to seeing each other and it did not work out ... tentatively this will be allowable again by May long ... in the meantime we are in touch by phone almost every day and he is usually in good spirits. Garry and I are not suffering one bit because of the lock-down. My concern has never been for our own comfort and we are not at all 'obsessive' about germ control. I have never been concerned about germs ... I am barefoot and bare hands in the dirt. Garry is more of a gloves and socks type and much more of a 'rule' follower than myself but neither of us are overly fearful of dying 'before' our time. Our time will be our time ... forfeiting quality of life for extended time is not on our 'bucket list'. Again ... I respect other people's boundaries ... but I do not respect random laws that are enforced punitively rather than restoratively and I never will.

It seems, in most places, the laws are only punitive if people are a**holes about following recommendations.

For example, I did not know that city playgrounds were voluntarily closed...they did not have to and it was not enforceable. But the equipment is not in use. If people were dissing the recommendations and acting as if nothing had changed, then they may have had to make it an enforceable closure with fines. Some grown-ups insist on acting like bullheaded teenagers through this and those are the ones who need rules. I was one earlier on, complaining - I thought the measures were too much - but I've changed my mind. Our measures and voluntary compliance has kept cases down.

Cabela's seems to be open here. It is a big store with wide aisles so arguably can be open safely.

I wonder if thrift stores will be a thing of the past.

We often pass a thrift store here. It's open and doesn't seem to be any different from pre-covid days. It's not a nice thrift store from the looks of it. Frankly, it looks like a junk pit from the outside. I don't know how it stays open when cleaner thrift stores are closed.

Where is the fear mongering? You must be ingesting different information than I am. I've seen fairly reasonable information sharing, especially as time progresses.

And you say you don't believe conspiracy theories? I've seen some good discussion and questioning. As I said, I am though concerned about agendas being put through while we're distracted.
