It is a complicated mash ... like someone said about doing medical treatment in a situation as a result of our desires to war ... and the populace believes me strange in my intellectual bent!

Screw the healthy folk lower 'd down ... subliminal humus? The fecundity of the earth in more ways than one-track ... like 2 person to a tub ... before it all goes down and some learn, some don't! The tub is 1/3 of the relations ... sometimes referred to as ton or Don's dais ... with a whine ... word god is something to work ...
 
I think, people right now need to hear something, some time frame, and the politicians are recognizing this. In NS, they are now talking about slowly returning to a new normal in June, but that there will be more waves of this and potentially going back to measurements as a result. People who are panicking over a vaccine not being available for a year or so, might feel that two months until things change to the better can be more easily done.
 
How many Christians completely ignore the "no fear" tirade? Can add to the following crowd in madden NG (non governed emotional states) be cool like Dan while tending fires cautiously! You may even have to clean the ache pits ... pseudoscience for PTSD domain ... if you haven't denied circumstantial evidence of SOL ... a dark abstract entity!

In some tech 7 black spots can cover the whole alpha Bet ... printer's night mare that carries the info ... imagine the royal opposition to Guttenberg!

I believe what has been said is that it is not the flu we are all familiar with because many people were using the comparison to the flu we know, which appeared to downgrade the severity of what we are now encountering.....eg. the virus we don't know.

Of course it's not. It's a different virus.....but we can learn from others experiences on how to prevent a virus from further spreading. What worked and what didn't work.
We've been told one of the major differences is the way the medical community responded.
During 1918, a virus itself was unfamiliar medical knowledge, there were no antibiotics for bacterias, there was no communication like we have today, there was a major war going on, mostly ships instead of planes helped spread the disease, the young were affected more than the elderly, there was no centralized command, news of the virus was downplayed because they thought the enemy would take advantage of their vulnerability during the war, and on and on.

Despite the differences, some of the principles to combat a virus remain the same.
 
I am wondering when they will start to lift restrictions while still keeping some in place

ie. Please wear a cloth mask when out in public. Wash, sanitize
limits to how many on each bus and subway car, which means conductors or something in each one. perhaps also means more buses on each route so that they are half full

but letting businesses re open. Still keeping distancing. Still no cash payments. Still wearing masks

perhaps having restaurants down size to half of the designated size. Allowing gatherings with the above rules

reopen parks and playgrounds with the suggestion that parents wipe down swings and slides with cloths

offices back in but expand distance between desks. Might mean half staff in and half at home

schools back in with extra cleaning. Would mean hiring extra cleaners, shortening the day so cleaning can be done.

while I understand the efforts made to keep the virus at bay part of me thinks that a library can be open, limit the number of people inside. Have wipes for people to use on computer terminals. Have rules of one person per aisle like in grocery stores.....

a clothing store. Limit people inside. Stores do that all the time at Christmas rush time, simply close the door and have an attendant. Sanitize.



i think that it is possible to limit our close contact while getting us back to work.
I would still instruct people to limit their outings to a few as possible but surely we can expect adults to understand and comply most of the time

i would still have police patrol parks and beaches. Reminding non family members to keep their distance. But .......


I remember at the height of SARS in Toronto it was a scary time. Hospitals were like war zones with triage tents out front..... and people were expected to take precautions.
 
I agree @Lastpointe. I'm sure there are ways to gradually open businesses. BC seems to have a pretty decent handle on things. It would seem feasible to have places open at a lower capacity. I was in a tea store yesterday. It's a small space. I saw the employee wipe down the doors before I came in. They only allow one customer at a time and the staff will get what you want. They don't let customers touch the products. Pet Value had a similar process. When I went to the hospital for a CT yesterday, there were people at the entrance checking people who came in with standard questions. I was asked to use hand sanitizer then was escorted to Medical Imaging. Even Michaels or a store like that could use that principle. Have a staff member help the customer and touch the products. That could be done in a library or other places too.

I am frustrated with Northern Health Authority in BC. My sick friend works at the care home there. NHA says one sick staff or client is an outbreak, yet say this facility has had NO outbreak. I realize they can't disclose everything they are doing to respond to this. Being so categorical about this seems inappropriate. It would be far more appropriate to say something that acknowledges that an employee is sick and that they are following up on this. I'm glad Tracey's family has gone public because it seems NHA is not notifying family members of people in the care home. I would be concerned if my parent was a resident.

Maybe keep your eye on Wuhan and other areas of China or Italy to see how it goes with the reduced restrictions, but also keep in mind that they have had a "head start" on the virus and then peaking, since December. I don't think we're even close to that personally and I have a feeling that here in Ontario, things may tighten up even further.....I'd love to be wrong about all that.

I totally realize this is complicated. I agree, I don't think Ontario is ready from what I can see. I'm pondering out loud. BC may be in a position to do some very limited relaxing, at least in this area where people seem to be behaving. That being said, I really don't know how that would work.

I don’t think Wuhan or Italy are great examples. They are authoritarian governed. They seem to have more problems with the disease and the behavioural impact, the more authoritarian the approach is.

In BC - not authoritarian governed before this, not authoritarian ambitious - we already do not have several of the restrictions @Lastpointe mentions. We have some choosing to wear masks (no evidence that they work). Not everyone has a sewing machine and can make them either. Some places won’t take cash but most still do. Excluding people who recovered, and 2 who died, we have 35 active cases here. Out of 794,000 people. On Vancouver Island the virus seems to be dying out. We’ve only gone up by 2 cases in about a week. Easter weekend is an important hump to get over. If people really break the rules it could go way up, but I don’t think they will. I’m worried about visitors from the mainland. But that is non essential and I hope BC Ferries is on top of it.

Premier Horgan, yesterday, declared the Easter Bunny an essential service. It was pretty cute.

He’s a politician, and he is sizing up leaders from a political positioning point of view as well. Henry is an epidemiologist and hired public health officer. She appears to be resisting the hard line some politicians are taking.


We need wide antibody testing. We need to demand it as soon as the tests are available, before waiting 18 months for a vaccine.

Unfortunately it seems a lot of people are travelling on the ferries this weekend. :( We'll see how that plays out.

How do you know what motivates Trudeau or anyone?

I appreciate the way Dr Henry is leading this. I appreciate the way Trudeau is doing what he does and is letting the medical people do what they do.

I don't know all that motivates Trudeau, but what motivates all geopolitical world leaders is some combination of competition and ego. Stop insisting that people with enormous power over us be treated with the same non judgemental mindset as the common person. They need to be judged by their behaviours and actions that impact us all. I think that it's a mistake not to. I'm not falling for it since our human rights have been so curtailed.

I never once suggested they be treated that way. I only challenged the idea that his motivation be known. All we can do is judge by their behaviours as you say.
