Yeah, that was the last I heard, too. A neat idea given that the movie was originally a comic riff on Star Trek and related series.

Sadly, if it's a television program, I seriously doubt they'll be able to get all the members of the original cast if any.

I haven't read any Fleming. And if he writes anything like a Tarantino movie then his books are probably not for me.
I'm all for a director who takes a character back to his original roots, but I wonder how many fans would be alienated by a new format that is such a departure from the previous films.

Actually, a lot of Bond fans still drool at the prospect. I wouldn't say his books are like a Tarantino movie so much as would lend themselves to one as they are very sexy, violent, and pulpy (though Fleming postdates the heyday of pulps by a couple decades). Fleming was nowhere near as good at writing punchy, catchy dialogue as dear old Quentin.

They might surprise us. The days when there was a one way path from TV to movies seems to be over. Witness Glenn Close on Damages and Claire Danes on Homeland. Both started out in movies.

Never been a Dr. Who fan. Would rather see a feature length Quark movie.

Now that would be an interesting idea. Quark was one of those shows that was ahead of its time. Today, it could easily get a multi-season run on a specialty channel like SyFy or a streaming service but on seventies broadcast, it was pretty much doomed from the get go. Way too geeky to draw a mass audience.

Okay, I'll take your word on that Mendalla. I don't know anything about either Damages or Homeland. Here's my gut feeling on how easy it would be for the producers to get the original Galaxy Quest cast back (A = very likely, F = impossible)

Tim Allen: A (provided he's finished with Last Man Standing (which I believe he is))
Sigourney Weaver: C- (too much of a major movie star)
Tony Shalhoub: B+ (though he'd want his part expanded)
Daryl Mitchell: A (provided they can find him again)
Enrico Colantoni: B (may not be interested in a weekly TV gig)
Alan Rickman: F

Tim and Tony both have strong TV backgrounds (indeed, both have arguably been more successful on the tube than on the big screen) so I'm sure could be lured into the project.

Sigourney? I'd be surprised if they could even get her for a theatrical sequel given that I believe she's committed for all three Avatar sequels (yeah, I know, her character died but so did Ellen Ripley at the end of Alien 3 and she was still the star of Alien : Resurrection) and a proposed new Alien movie among other projects.

I'm not that familiar with Daryl and Enrico beyond GQ.

Alan Rickman? Who knows? He hasn't really done much since Harry Potter ended so maybe he'd be up for a regular gig.

Footnote: Oh, by the way, the Avatar sequels are on my "I really don't give a s**t list". The first looked beautiful but the story was cliched (with most of the cliches being ones Cameron has used better in other films) and the script kind of meh. Cameron's legendary perfectionism seems to come to a crashing halt when he sits down at the typewriter these days.

Tim was in one of my all-time favorite movies.

(Which, yes, I know, is generally considered to be a terrible movie. Nevertheless.)

Wild Hogs seems to be a bit of a cult movie. Not well-received critically but has a following.

Another movie that never got made, at least not the one originally promised, is the Catwoman movie. The original idea was a movie continuing the story of Michelle Pfeiffer's Selena Kyle from Batman Returns. What we finally got many years later was a hot mess of a movie starring Halle Berry that had almost nothing to do with the comic book character or Batman.

I want a "real" Catwoman movie though I guess it would be starring Anne Hathaway (or maybe somebody new since they're rebooting Batman as part of the Justice League universe) now, I imagine Pfeiffer wouldn't be too interested in doing stunt and fight work in a catsuit again now that she's in her fifties.

EDIT: Actually, Zoe Saldana might make a good Catwoman. Selena was African-American in Batman : Year One so there is precedent for it.

Catwoman was also African American in one of her television incarnations. Eartha Kitt.

Looks like Stephen King's Dark Tower is being considered again. Too bad it's not Peter Jackson. CGI would work well with this story. I think there were 7 books and a couple of them were phone book huge.

They have most recently been talking about a mix of TV and movies but the plans keep changing. Akiva Goldsman (Ron Howard's writing partner) is back involved after he and Howard worked on, and then left, one of the earlier efforts. In some ways, it's one I'd rather see left on the printed page but we shall see.

Would one be required to pass through a lot of quirks to get to Quark?

Could be a learning process that could crack the shell ...

Difficult for the hard bo isled sorts?

We're getting a wave of trailers right now due to Comic-con though, sadly, Lucasfilm didn't have a new Star Wars trailer ready though I hear the footage reel they did use was good. However, this one caught my eye:

We may not ever get a "period" Bond but this is looking like the next best thing. And only a month or so to go. Too bad Cavill already has a big name franchise (Superman in the Warner-DC universe) which will probably mean a sequel will be a few years out even if this one succeeds. It also reduces the likelihood of him getting Bond (a role that he'd be perfect for) when Daniel Craig moves on from that series.

It looking much more promising than the first teaser. I like the fact that they've set up a reason for Batman to take on Supes (the destruction of the Wayne building in Metropolis during the battle at the end of Man of Steel). They are playing up the contrast between the super-powered alien "god" and the technology-based human vigilante well. And I'm like Jesse Eisenberg as Lex, though it will be interesting to see when he loses the hair. But, I must say, I'm liking Gal Gadot more and more as Wonder Woman all the time. That WW solo movie can't come soon enough.

The best news I'm hearing out of the Warner/DC camp, though, is that Affleck is lined up to write and direct the solo Batman movie as well as play Bruce/Batman. Given his decent track record as a writer and director, it makes me cautiously optimistic.

Yes, well said Mendalla. It all looks very exciting. I was going to take a pass on this film, but now I'm excited to see it.

Check. Was reading about that just today :)

Just watched the Comic-con reel for Star Wars : The Force Awakens. I hate myself for wanting to see this movie so badly after being burned by the prequels, but it looks so so promising. I don't if it is seeing Harrison, Mark, and Carrie back or that Abrams is going with a lot of practical effects and animatronics along with CGI rather than wall-to-wall CGI or that the new cast look like a promising bunch (which they do) but I'm getting a good vibe from this one. But, then again, I felt that way about The Phantom Menace early in the game, too. Crossing fingers and waiting for the next trailer.

Loved Episodes 4, 5, & 6 of the franchise (especially 4 & 6).

Saw Episode 1 & that was enough for me to call it quits.

May go to see Episode 7. Maybe.
