Anyone interested? Two years ago we studied the Sermon on the Plain during Lent. This year I am planning to read the Sermon on the Mount.

Any takers? Snoopy can always count on @unsafe to participate but it would be nice to have a few more people.

Unpopular opinions will be welcome on the thread. I will remind all of us not to insult the contrary-minded.

Ape will likely join in. Are we that close to Lent already? I know I leave on vacation on Good Friday, which is the first Friday in April this year. So I guess lent starts end of February?

Some people believe that the Sermon on the Mount was a single discourse delivered by Jesus on one occasion.

Others think it is most likely Matthew's compilation of various sayings by Jesus. It is probably important to keep in mind it was created for a Jewish audience.

Spot on ------Jesus was still alive here ------the Gentiles were not included yet

I think if you do some research on the Beatitudes you will find that they somewhat mirror the Blessings in Deuteronomy 28:1-14 which were given to bless the people outwardly in this Physical world if they obeyed God's commands ------

The Beatitudes are the inward Blessings coming in the New Covenant of Grace that Jesus is teaching here ------they show the change that is needed from outward to inward to be a part of God's Kingdom -------

So after Jesus is Crucified and Resurrected the Beatitudes are the required inward Blessings for all who want to be part of God's Kingdom under the New Covenant of Grace -----

Some scholars call the Beatitudes the New Deuteronomy 28 ---

Thanks everyone for your posts. I will probably go ahead with this project but I am not 100% certain.

I have been on a sabbatical of sorts since mid November. Not doing WC2 bible study and not attending church. It's been good to have a little bit of clear space for thinking.

Planning to return to church but probably not tomorrow due to the snowstorm we are expecting.

Well deserved break I say -----Hope you keep up your study here ----so very important and so well executed -----we all have a gift that God gives everyone at birth and I believe you have found your Gift from God by doing these studies ----your a Master at it in my view ------and whether you realize it or not your Planting His Seed in people --- and if that seed hits the right soil --it takes Root and Grows:angel:------

Seconded.

If you do a Lenten Study thread, I'll follow and take part.
I did a national online Lenten Study last year, but was rather disappointed.
Perhaps a Wondercafe2 Lenten Study would suit me better.

One of my favorite Lenten studies was 3 years ago: we met on Wednesday evenings for "bring your own dinner" and we watched and discussed
season 1 of "The Chosen." Then the next year, we watched and discussed season 2 over Lent.

But a discussion thread based on Sermon of the Mount sounds good.
