I have strong views about snow tires. Along with religion, it's one of those things my neurodivergent head is fascinated by.

The best are the Continental VikingContact 8, Bridgestone Blizzak Icepeak (new, but probably amazing by pedigree) and Michelin X-Ice Snow +. If you want the very best and you can't use or don't want studs, those are your best options. The last 2 are made in Canada.

A really good mid-grade winter tire, I feel, is the General Altimax Arctix X. It's a Continental product and probably very close to the VikingContact 8 above for $50 cheaper per tire. Mostly made in Slovakia alongside the VC8.

I went VC8 myself with a new set. Continentals have been great for me in deep snow. Almost went with the Generals.

For budget offerings, I once had a good set of GT Radials, and Laufenn and others make a decent winter tire now.

If you need rims, online retailers out of Quebec are hard to beat. Quattro Tires and PMC Tire are probably the two best. The tires ship free in about a week, mounted and balanced to your choice of wheel. No sense using these guys for just tires - go to local independent shop or even Costco if it's an option.

Yes, you’ve mentioned that once or twice. And no one said anything about weeping over changing vehicles.
"...I get to buy a new set of snow tires this year KA-CHING…. Oy vey…."

And my mentioning that I can't drive, Redbaron, is as valid as you mentioning your vehicle

Jae, we've had members literally dying of cancer who complained less about chemo than you do about your inability to drive whenever vehicles are discussed.

I bet epilepsy sucks. But so does self-sabotage. You can't control the first but you can control the second.

Back to winter tires, a niche but very good brand is always Nokian, but you pay for them and they are arguably no better than the 3 top choices above.

They mark down their old designs and sell them under the Nordman brand. I would absolutely buy a set of those.

Anyone can PM me if they want more info or recommendations.

To each his own but someone will try and overwhelm the expressions. When most require tires ... is it a reasonable option to discuss?

I purchased a set of Michelin all seasons that might not suit all people but as to limited driving (decent weather) they are acceptable and quiet so I leave them on all year. Basic travel conditions considering my age class ...

Neutral commentary is good when you aren't in a particular position ...

Good morning! back atcha. I'm "time change lagged" and had to deal with the traffic lights out at a major intersection near my office where I have to turn left to get to work. So I've had better.

Why do humans ridicule materials they have difficulty with ... is it a time limiting function ... related to the dislike of knowledge, etc.

Fascinates me this psyche thing that some ridicule ... poor dreaming lady ...

Which pretty much sums up most of East Asia and Europe when compared to North America. I would not bother with a car if I lived in Shanghai. There's so many better ways to get around there.
