Through the years, my dad lost more pairs of reading glasses into Gramma's sewage tank that we could count - he would keep them in his chest pocket in case he needed them and the next thing you'd know, he'd lean over a wee bit too far and they'd fall out.

Yeah, I have a scrip for mine. Gets them covered by my insurance at work. I also have mid-range ones for screens but I find I don't use them much.

It used to be a freshwater holding tank in my parents garage. Now it holds wastewater from a sink that is inexplicably in the garage and has to be pumped out periodically.

Not to worry, the 2ftx4ft opening at the garage floor had a 3/4" plywood lid.

Sadly, that lid was sitting on some 2x2 my dad strapped to the sides of the opening at least 30 years ago. The plywood held. Whatever held the strapping rusted away and the strapping snapped. I went straight down. I broke my fall by wracking my hand down at the countertop where I was standing, fixing their pool filter. Changed my downward trajectory enough to land on the side of my hip before my entire body fell 6ft straight down, feet dangling over the edge.

Bruised, pissed off that the house still hasn't sold because my parents think it's worth more than it is, and tired of driving there.

I just picked up a piece of checkerplate from a welder friend. I'll form and pour a partial cap over the opening and leave a 1ftx2ft checkerplate covered opening, sitting on a concrete lip all around.

But that's for the next trip.
