Nothing like watching an artist in action. Of course, I'm a writer. Me in action is rather dull, really. Mostly just my fingers dancing around on a keyboard with occasional forays to my mouse.
That's what a lot of my daily artist in action looks like too :)

Doesn't really sound like a spectator sport... but then, to me, neither does Texas Hold 'em Poker, though that actually gets televised (yawn). Anyway, LAST.

I think painting and sculpting are more visual but even they are hardly the stuff of spectator sports. Well, unless the artist is named Bob Ross and is doing it as an engaging art lesson.

Yesterday's recording session would a yawner to anyone else as we were mainly editing tracks

Gallery gala this afternoon! I've never been to one before and this one is mine

Consider me to be there in spirit. Even if I did live close enough, I'm still in isolation until tomorrow.

6 people total - including the board member who was the hostess...it was to go from 3 - 5 pm and the first person didn't show till 4:15 - saw it yesterday but came back specifically to meet me and ask me questions about artworks and my decks - she bought 2 decks :) The last person (from Mirror) arrived around 4:30 and left around 5:30 - asked lots of great questions (biggest question from both was how I draw the skies on the ipad), I gave her an ipad demo, and she offered to take pictures of me and my art so did that...hostess bought 2 decks too :)

1. The Journey Begins...

Though I have been creative all my life, I wasn’t an “artist.” I took band, not art in school. And, while I admired artwork, attended numerous local art shows, and secretly longed to draw and paint, I never had (or thought I had) the opportunity to explore the artistic life – or the talent. That changed in December, 2016 when I signed up for the Woman Unleashed Winter Solstice retreat (first time I had ever signed up for an online retreat) hosted by Amber Kuileimailani Bonnici from Hawaii. I was amazed at the range of artistic options (and that was just a sampling) available. I took a huge leap in January, following the end of the retreat, and painted my very first acrylic painting “Unfurl,” using the Intentional Creativity Method taught by Amber, and her mentor Shiloh Sophia. I signed up for a few more artistic online retreats, that also used the Intentional Creativity method, and decided to keep on painting.

2. Venturing Out...

I’ve always been drawn to the slightly quirky and unusual, so when I saw a post online about making baskets and bowls from newspapers, I had to try it, especially since I had a ready supply of old newspapers to use. First, I made a number of bowls, that I painted. I even made some newspaper plates! Then, I felt I was ready to try the baskets. Basket weaving was always on my list of skills to learn, so this seemed like a great opportunity to try out different styles and sizes. After the baskets were made, I spray painted them different colours.

3. The First Road Block...

In March, 2017, my health collapsed again, and I was in bed for months, crying non-stop for two. During that time, I started crocheting and knitting as I could do that lying down. My young niece saw a library book on my bed with patterns for crochet food, something that was quirky enough to appeal to me, and we “cooked” up a plan to create a crochet food buffet to see if we could “fool” Gramma (my mother). While I had a great start on the project, health setbacks stalled my progress. My mother passed away in June of 2019, and as we had been keeping the project a complete secret, as we wanted a BIG reveal, unfortunately she never did get to see it in person. I plan to continue making the food, mainly because it’s just so much fun, so we can still create our buffet.

4. Leaving the Beaten Path...

As my health started to improve, and with a few more online retreats and free art classes, as well as an introductory DVD cartooning class, under my belt, I decided that I felt confident enough to paint without any instruction, or with someone else’s method. Okay, not really confident, as I had no idea if I could pull it off, but I had the desire to try, just to see if I really could. I discovered that I could, and I progressed from recreating some of my cartoon exercise drawings onto canvas, to creating new images entirely. That confidence boost, led me to experiment even more, as I brought my whimsical/cartoon-like visions and inspiring nature into my artwork.
