Received notice from the RCMP that 3 different areas of southern Alberta are being evacuated due to out-of-control wildfires...it is too darn windy for fire.

Wind is the worst thing if you have wildfires. Fans the flames and helps spread it by blowing burning debris around.

Some people don't seem to realize how dangerous and unpredictable grass fires - especially in extremely windy conditions - are.

True. There's a reason 'spreads like wildfire' is an expression.
The newscaster was standing on the road by Airdrie, mere feet from burning flames - and it's windy - and said that the fire was out and there was just a few hot spots yet...less than 15 minutes later a structure a little ways back was completely engulfed...crazy, he shouldn't have been that close when obviously the fire wasn't out.

Humanity is not stupid! You expected different? Even I feel relieved to be part of something common ...

Lots of wind here. Tree down across the street. Power out in spots across town but we are ok so far. No nearby fires but a friend had to evacuate in AB.
