Well, except unlike a dog or cat they could travel in your checked bags with your liquids and knives.

Personally, I think we should keeping animals as pets and keep virtual pets instead.

I've travelled with dogs, cats, rabbits, doves, a guinea pig, and gerbils. All were good experiences.

I do have a dog - life-size plush golden lab puppy...all in all very easy care and well behaved - except when niece is here...and he sheds a bit. Since I got him, I've been on the lookout for other dogs - new-ish place in Stettler sell life-size plush baby animals including wild one - maybe I could get a baby elephant instead?
