We got invited by neighbours to celebrate with them.

A huge group of mexicans. Playing basketball. Eating. Laughing. Babies. Toddlers. Leaping bbq flames. Carne asada. Salty greasy cheeze filled franks. Home made tater salad. Watermelon. Pinapple. Heated tortillas.

Then the fireworks. Oh my. Whirling dervishes. Roman candles. Fountains. Foe the first time ever I got hit by a whirling dervish. I'm alright lol I said it was time for me to go inside. We thanked the host for his generosity.

This is what True America is aboot.

Happy belated 4th!
I think lots of Canadians have American cousins. Many of my Acadian rellys wound up in Mass.
 
Given that the other boards I am on are American-heavy, I am a bit fourth of July'd out. They seem to be making the best of the day even given circumstances.
 
I have no American relatives, except a second cousin who somehow ended up in Texas. We're not really in touch (this is Mom's cousin, so he'll be almost 90 if he's a day), and my couple of good American friends (started from on-line friendships) are very liberal, and very anti-flag-ra-ra, so I am spared much of this birthday party. Seems not to have led to a reflective mood down there, unlike the clearly changed views of many Canadians around our "birthday".

You think that doesn't permeate everything, lol? I blame it on the quality of the neighbours, personally.

Happy birthday to whoever is celebrating one. My baby sister's birthday is tomorrow. I will take her out for sushi, and contribute some cash to her "turtle fund"; money she needs for gas/car maintenance in order to spend the spring/summer/fall driving rescued turtles back to where they were rescued from. She has a lot of fun.

Haven't seen a red-eared slider in ages. They were one of my favourite creatures when I was a kid. (along with smooth green grass snakes). Do they still exist? Lots of snappers.

i wonder why you identified this group first as neighbours but then as mexicans
And I wonder at the description of a huge group gathered together in this time of keeping distant and staying safe
 
I saw a video of an airplane flying over LA County and fireworks were going up everywhere. Lots, amazing. LA County had banned fireworks, and potential $50,000.00 fine. Good to see so many take independence seriously in such an LLeft stronghold.
