Dad forgot my sixpence in the hotel room. Luckily I'm not superstitious; I was just doing it for a bit of fun.

Never heard the sixpence part. Mrs. M had the old, the new, the borrowed. Don't recall any blue, tough.

Of course, in traditional Chinese weddings, the bride wears red (which you'll also see a lot in coming days as Lunar New Year approaches) which is a colour of good fortune and prosperity. Though many Chinese brides are opting for Western-style dresses now (my niece actually did both).
