Anyone else had to do a doc search of late? How did it go? What is the situation like in your area for family docs?
Our family physician sent us a letter at the end of October announcing his retirement effective January 1. He was basically handing off to a team in South London that does only walk-in service so we would not have an actual family physician, just a walk-in that had our records. We would get whoever was on duty when we went in. Not good, esp. given that we both have chronic conditions that need monitoring, like my diabetes.
So we (mostly Mrs. M since I had finished my run of October vacation by then) started looking. And pretty much by pure luck and persistence found what may be the one family physician in London who is taking patients (my boss' family doctor is part of the same family health team). And he's a noob, relatively speaking. Just finished his family medicine residency last year. Which is likely why he still has capacity to take patients. So, we are breathing easier but this is a story I keep hearing around here; that people have trouble finding a primary care doctor, nurse practitioner, or team that is taking patients when they need a new family practice. When I was talking to people at work about it at least one of my team was also looking (and lives near this guy we found so he may be okay now, too).
