Fall - I didn't know it'd be so hard

Yup - crokinole is a good family game. We didn't have it when our kids were growing up - at that time good the boards were pretty much handcrafted - too expensive for us. There were some really cheap boards too that warped quickly that hubby judged to be a waste of money.

Youngest grand (5) is getting a board for Christmas this year from us - he is an 'only' and really good at games. His parents and their friends have included him as much as possible in their gaming nights. He picks things up quickly - hard to beat him at UNO, and he usually beats older kids at checkers. A crokinole board will give him something he can share with friends and adult family! Never a bad idea for 'only' kids - not that this one has a problem about that.
You better get your "flicking finger" toughened up Kay! It's a great game, and yes, those boards are costly. We used to arrange round robin tournaments at the cottage ... so much fun. Here's an article about crokinole for Giancarloz who might be wondering what this crazy Canadian cultural game is - Where is the crokinole capital of the world? | The Star

Trivia - I think the game originated in St. Jacobs Ontario 9or environs) - nearby where Mendalla & I grew up. There's still an active league apparently a the firehall there - home of the National Crokinole Association!

We had crokinole as part of a "50 Games in One" deal. On the same board we could play crokinole, chess, checkers, steeplechase, backgammon, hockey, darts and more. Great family fun.

Seen those around. We had a multigame set but it didn't include crokinole.

I suspect that we may own the ONLY playing board in the province for this traditional UK game. Our kids didn't get very excited by it.
The Rules of Shove Ha'penny

They much preferred this game - suitable for four year olds and up through the senior years. We did some soft gambling on this :). Children were given a stake and got to keep their coins (or not!) at the end of the playing session. I highly recommend it for mixed groups. Each 'race' is fairly quick and players can drop in and out at the end of any race. Rules readily available online.
