Northwind ----your quote -----Yes we know that. It is you, not God judging here. Your worldly view and interpretation blinds you. I don't see any light on your soul at all. All I see is judgemental troll

unsafe says ----LOL ---If that is what you believe then that is definitely your belief and your welcome to it ----your not hurting my feelings in any way -----your the one judging me here is all -----so your doing what you don't like done to you but you can't help yourself ------Frustration can do that to us -----

Reminds me of this scripture -----

Is blind pharisaic law made optimal by jesus' optics as optimal hind ned view in the following consequences?

Let us all back up a bit ...

Here's what I don't get. God doesn't get offended easily.....waaaay too omnipotent. It's incredibly arrogant to make God into an impatient child who throws tantrums if he's mocked.IMHO
Especially if we humans get to decide what "mocking" means.

I saw the good Bishop John Spong in person a few times.

IMHO there was a guy who mocked those with beliefs more traditional than his own.

LOL. Not at all frustrated. Why would a troll be frustrating?

I'm reading his book "Unbelievable" right now, and hugely enjoying it.

I don't see him as mocking anyone, as much as beckoning the church alumni back in for a look.

I have read some of his books as well @BetteTheRed. I enjoyed Rescuing the Bible From Fundamentalism a great deal.

In person (I heard him talk on 3 occasions) I found him somewhat mocking. The first two times I found him very funny but I had a different reaction the third time.

I've seen him in person just once, in London. I've seen a lot of his video via LTQ and read all of his books. Is there a difference between mocking and challenging?

I had "unbelievable" in my hands at the bookstore but decided to see if I can find it at the library.
Really looking forward to reading it.
There's an OT story about some children "mocking" Elisha??? Anyway they were calling him Baldy and he had God send some bears to eat 'em up.

Yes, in my mind there is a big difference between challenging someone to think more deeply and making fun of that person and/ or that person's beliefs. He came across as quite mocking on the third occasion I heard him speak but this may reflect some of my struggles at the time. Hard to say.

I was first exposed to Spong as part of a United Church Lenten series in the early 90's. I read some of his books over the next few years. I started to find him quite repetitive after a time and have not looked at his newer material.

I tried to read his biography and found it very dry. That was a while ago.

He has some repetitive themes, for sure. "To live fully, to "be" as completely as you were meant to be, to love wastefully".

He's not saying anything hugely different in his final book to what he said in "Why Christianity Must Change or Die". He's condensed it to 10 elements. I'm enjoying it, thus far. The Kindle edition wasn't too expensive, and it's how I like to read, these days.
