Covid 19 catch up

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

I use Whereby - which is very simple. You just go to the website - whereby.com - and follow the instructions to set up your 'room' - then when you want to chat with somebody - just send them the link to your room & they can join you at any time :-) Need to have your (and theirs) camera & microphone turned on. It's a clean, simple interface with the toolbar at the bottom always visible (with Zoom it sometimes disappears, causing some confusion.) Use of whereby is free for up to 4 people on a call. If you need more, you can pay to upgrade - or maybe use Zoom instead.

Yesterday I had a fb chat with a long time friend Androulla (met her in my first year of uni!). She lives in Crete in the winter months, and Toronto at other times of the year. Her son, my godson, has lived & worked in Hong Kong for many years. She describes life much like it is here with most things closed now for at least a month, although it seems the border was not closed to tourism & that has become a problem. One big difference is that people have to carry their passports or papers when they go out & about, and may be stopped by police/military? on the street to question their destination etc. She's a huge extrovert, so it's been quite an adjustment for her to be home alone so much, but she said she's quite used to it now.

A friend sent me these comments by Bill Gates:

Message from Bill Gates

*What is the Corona/ Covid-19 Virus Really Teaching us?*

I’m a strong believer that there is a spiritual purpose behind everything that happens, whether that is what we perceive as being good or being bad.

As I meditate upon this, I want to share with you what I feel the Corona/ Covid-19 virus is really doing to us:

1) It is reminding us that we are all equal, regardless of our culture, religion, occupation, financial situation or how famous we are. This disease treats us all equally, perhaps we should to. If you don’t believe me, just ask Tom Hanks.

2) It is reminding us that we are all connected and something that affects one person has an effect on another. It is reminding us that the false borders that we have put up have little value as this virus does not need a passport. It is reminding us, by oppressing us for a short time, of those in this world whose whole life is spent in oppression.

3) It is reminding us of how precious our health is and how we have moved to neglect it through eating nutrient poor manufactured food and drinking water that is contaminated with chemicals upon chemicals. If we don’t look after our health, we will, of course, get sick.

4) It is reminding us of the shortness of life and of what is most important for us to do, which is to help each other, especially those who are old or sick. Our purpose is not to buy toilet rolls.

5) It is reminding us of how materialistic our society has become and how, when in times of difficulty, we remember that it’s the essentials that we need (food, water, medicine) as opposed to the luxuries that we sometimes unnecessarily give value to.

6) It is reminding us of how important our family and home life is and how much we have neglected this. It is forcing us back into our houses so we can rebuild them into our home and to strengthen our family unit.

7) It is reminding us that our true work is not our job, that is what we do, not what we were created to do. Our true work is to look after each other, to protect each other and to be of benefit to one another.

8) It is reminding us to keep our egos in check. It is reminding us that no matter how great we think we are or how great others think we are, a virus can bring our world to a standstill.

9) It is reminding us that the power of freewill is in our hands. We can choose to cooperate and help each other, to share, to give, to help and to support each other or we can choose to be selfish, to hoard, to look after only our self. Indeed, it is difficulties that bring out our true colors.

10) It is reminding us that we can be patient, or we can panic. We can either understand that this type of situation has happened many times before in history and will pass, or we can panic and see it as the end of the world and, consequently, cause ourselves more harm than good.

11) It is reminding us that this can either be an end or a new beginning. This can be a time of reflection and understanding, where we learn from our mistakes, or it can be the start of a cycle which will continue until we finally learn the lesson we are meant to.

12) It is reminding us that this Earth is sick. It is reminding us that we need to look at the rate of deforestation just as urgently as we look at the speed at which toilet rolls are disappearing off of shelves. We are sick because our home is sick.

13) It is reminding us that after every difficulty, there is always ease. Life is cyclical, and this is just a phase in this great cycle. We do not need to panic; this too shall pass.

14) Whereas many see the Corona/ Covid-19 virus as a great disaster, I prefer to see it as a *great corrector* It is sent to remind us of the important lessons that we seem to have forgotten and it is up to us if we will learn them or not.

@GeoFee - thank you for this - it summarizes so well some of what I too have been thinking, but not always saying aloud. Please let me know if you would be okay with it being shared more widely. You are a blessing George.

Hi Carolla. Thank you for your encouragements. I am trusting that Bill would be happy to have his thoughts spread as wide as possible.

Coronavirus: Fake Bill Gates ‘letter’ shared as Covid-19 misinformation circulates online

Bogus message about ‘spiritual purpose’ behind disease latest fake news surrounding Covid-19

Once it became clear it was a spoof, The Sun removed the story and apologised for the incident.

A spokesperson for The Sun said: “In the heat of events yesterday, The Sun online mistakenly published a spoof story which was doing the rounds on email. The story has now been removed. Every day The Sun chooses not to publish hundreds of stories and we apologise for this error.

The model Naomi Campbell posted the message falsely claiming to contain Mr Gates’ words on Twitter and Instagram, alongside her own message: “I hope you may find some solace in these words.”

It is not yet clear who began circulating the false information online.

I don't know, if that letter was referring to Ebola or HIV would it still work? If a family member died from COVID, would it still ring true?
Seems to me it works as long as we pretend it's still not a reality and not personally not affecting us.

The “scam” presents an overview of our predicament, a reflection on its causes, and steps to be taken for remedy.

Yes, of course. But what is the point of attributing the letter to Gates? To make it more credible, maybe?

 The cynic in me wonders if an appeal for money might have come next.

I did a “ Library” exchange with another German speaking friend today. Left a bag of books on my porch for her to pick up and she left me a mug rug sewing instruction in exchange. Of course, we also spoke on the phone before that. Tomorrow will be our Quaker meeting for the first time by Zoom, administered by our member in NFL and attended by several others in NS.

Got to love the ephemeral myth of psyche as an all rounded woman ... icon of mine! Resembles a white dove ... hard to crack?

I am not able to verify Gates as the source. I am still in basic agreement with the presented insights.
It’s kind of like the way some preachers spread their agenda attributing to God what is not from God. Relying that the listener is too lazy to check with God’s word.

Trust me-this is revelation from God. But anyone who uses scripture as the Bereans, have turned God’s word into an idol.

Does this include stories from beyond the secular understanding of the predetermined about such things that are in conflict to the last words of the Gospel of John ... that parallels Joe, Jack, Jean, etc. as referring to the little common people that fall to the side of the powerful elite? It is an odd imbalance to the Golden Scales of Justice ... to allow the winning game ... to go on in autonomous domains! A place not often considered ...
