And last evening, there was an informal 'moderator's poll' on top three areas of priority for the coming triennium - and Reconciliation was the leader by a very very wide margin.

It is my understanding that GCE was asked... only asked to divest from those mining companies. It has to be worked on and worked out as to how and when it can be done without jeopardizing the Pensions. I hope they will carry it out.

How did the Moderator's poll go? I didn't hear how it turned out.. I am happy that the College of Ministers gets a deeper look.
The name itself was not inviting to my spiritual nature. It is a name taken for other types of professionals. I wonder if the name itself was a deterrent in the mind. It kind of made me shudder when they showed it with a background of a pillared building.
makes it look pretty high ended, rather than humble.

Humble doesn't mean grovelling, but knowing who you are enough to be able to work on to minister without ego getting involved to damage the message.
A watch we all need to own for ourselves and for others if they are interfering somehow with their own message. I think it enables us to walk with others to a degree without allowing us to take over.

Each one is in charge of themselves. Just as we are. We try to have our children grow into that same ability. To govern themselves in good ways, not guilt ways but chosen behaviours. That way they live with themselves and do for others without shame, or fear...they know who they are. ID of self is crucial for kids today. Being grounded in love is the key to that being successful.

So then they spoke of an Association of Ministers. Better than 'College' I think there was more to the 'no' than I have here. But also what it would be about what it does and who would be in it. Thank goodness they dropped the thought of having to pay to be in it.

Equal reps between Lay and Clergy is a stable and necessary thing to maintain in our claims of Church we have held to that good and fair principle. We would have lost some integrity to move away from that.

Peace be ...

I think the asking was because GC (nor GCE) can direct the Pension Plan to do anything. And so the GOldcorp proposal was to express to the PP that the will of the church is to divest.

The College was not moved forward, instead there is a proposed Office of Vocation out of the national structure. THe Association is totally separate from the COllege anyway. It was more like a pseudo-union piece. ANd all that is happening is that a group of ministry personnel will be created to explore if it is something that ministry personnel actually want.

Ye gods turn slowly when entangled in red tape and lions in the san ... and not understanding where any of these attributes lead!

Could it be a mindful distant land as we sacrifice knowledge for desires? This be the hearts wish .. and it beats on everything without a clue ... auto Mous? Das IT!

@Spirit Wind 7 - Here's a screen shot from the poll results - can't really read the numbers well, but the graph shows the relative priority as indicated by the Commissioners; it's not a binding poll - but a guide to GCE as they formulate plans

Did you get to bring our flag home?

Hi Crazyheart - at the end of GC we were invited to select a fish from another church to take home ... I initially thought I would not do so, but then reconsidered. I selected one that had caught my eye all week with its gentle colouring. I untangled it from the fishnet, and then took a closer look at it as I returned to my table. WOW! I was so surprised!!

On the front is written : Our Blessings from Kennetcook-St. Pauls Pastoral Charge - in Hants County, Nova Scotia. Here's the amazing thing - my ancestors were United Empire Loyalsists. They were settled in Hants County in the Kennetcook area where they cleared a large farm & built and ran a grist mill for the community. Several decades ago, family members (my Dad was involved) retrieved the original mill stones & had them installed in a historic monument site along a roadside near the original property, along with a plaque. So it was a very special moment for me to find I had selected this fish - or perhaps it selected me. :)

On the back of it - their prayer is written as:
Give us:
F aith
I nspiration
S olidarity
H ope

Amen.

I've been wondering too Bette. This afternoon I sent a note to the people of the pastoral charge whose fish I selected ... perhaps if someone selected our fish they will also let us know. There were over 500 fish so it's quite possible some were not taken along.

Interesting choices. What about discipleship? What about evangelism? What about participating in the Missio Dei?

discipleship & evangelism are givens jae.
they should be a given. I am not sure they are in the UCCan anymore.

As I understand it, the items in the poll were topics discussed at GC and the poll was a part of how GCE will set priorities for the work that grows out of this meeting (which means wehre $$$ and time will be assigned)

Is an eve angel dark? Are they found under trees as hamadryad the spirit of the tree of LOGOS ... or logic if you wish to compare statins with status ... of fixation on rising when one should get right into what we don't know ... so we'd know beta ... that's 2nd ...

Two out of three are a good start. What about the third?
The items listed are items that came up because some part of the church believed that it was part of living out the Missio Dei. And a number of people (thought not necessarily everyone) agreed with them..

That's great to hear Gord. It's wonderful if the UCCanada is beginning to think along missional lines.

What was the actual poll question asked that generated the responses given?

From what I could tell watching the livestream I believe it was to choose three from the list

TO be honest few would use that language or even consciously have that understanding. They would just say this is how they are called to be the church or how to live in the world
