Now I thought there were many "denominations" in the early "churches", (I'm assuming like today?),so how would we know if there was only one way to do church that was acceptable?
Certainly, variations in practice and belief happened fairly early. A lot of Paul's letters are addressing issues where a congregations had "drifted" or adopted what he saw as incorrect practices or ideas. I am not sure denominations would be the correct term, though. The church was fairly loosely organized at this point and things like Gnosticism (modern term, not what they called themselves) were philosophical movements that weren't really organized in the way a denomination is today. You would have like-minded churches corresponding or sharing texts, but rarely any real structure to it. At least that's my sense from the reading I have done. As time wore on, and people like Paul started developing a leadership structure for the church (which you can see in some of the letters), then in a more structured church, denominations would become possible.

Do the secular gods like diversity in denominations so they can arrange conflicts in which the powers gain from the debris of the actions?

I've often wondered about the gods of men and the men of gods as the latter being a small item ... little folk? Gnomes ... blackened by editing ... rendering down! The myths become fore short NG ... resembling so much lard as follows gamma Gam R's ... players? Some of us observe lightly ... as it often means little the games of the secular's ide ... supports trans meditation ... a sense of cross when you mull the irrationalities that explode ...
