This thread is about Hefner, not about Kimmio and Northwind. I use the word vortex because that's how some of these discussions end - spinning in circles.

I apologize to the group for my part in the derail.
 
Hefner was clearly a colourful and controversial man. I have no doubt he played a part in the sexual revolution. He also lived a hedonistic life, as did those who lived around him. I do not think he harmed all women. There are some who enjoy that lifestyle and who did benefit from it. Saying that he harmed all women somehow, is an example of an ism. At the same time, I do believe he contributed to the objectification of women. A phenomena that existed already. As I write this, I'm thinking the sexual revolution was part of women becoming empowered. So maybe he did some good for women as well.

It's complicated.

Yes Luce, you're right. I'm against education on things like God. That's why I'm spending thousands of dollars on attending Canada's best seminary.
 
There's more to women's equality than whether sex is a sin or not. Big f'ng deal. That is such a simplistic view of "liberation". That's so 40-50 years ago. What about objectification?

And no not all women are the same. Hef's feminism is the ideal feminism if feminism were invented by men.... Oh, wait...3rd wave? I'm sure he influenced that.

So, kinda ironic to have a man single out my comment and tell me I don't speak for all women.

Hef championed the pill and abortion to make his lifestyle easier - not for the women. He treated some of the women in his life like dirt, was abusive, and he's not a hero. Fine for his close love ones to love him but the public adoration is sad.

No problem. I thought some insincere praise was appropriate for your insincere dealings with people. I'd be shocked if someone thought you'd make a good pastor, and indeed your career seems to have swerved away from that path. If you're still spending thousands to not be a minister, then you must have extra money laying around.
