Speaking of trippy

The ufo is nothing more than an assertion of herself by the Goddess into history, saying to science and paternalistically governed and driven organizations: You have gone far enough. We are going to turn the world upside down. Your science is going to be shown up for what it is, nothing more than a pleasant metaphor usefully extrapolated into the production of toys for healthy children. That's what science is good for.
It is not some meta-theory at whose feet every point of view from astrology to acupressure to channeling need be laid to have the hand of science announce thumbs up or thumbs down.

Is a conscience an alien thing to those without it?

Perhaps leading to paranoia ... about abstract forms!

There’s a ufo/ alien believer, esoteric, racism, neofascist connection to beware of. Some, not all, believers but it’s growing. Watched an archeologist giving an TED talk who said even some modern day Myan she met seem to care more about the ancient aliens on the history channel than about their own real history.

That's actually been there for decades, even if the current wave of right wing extremism is amplifying it now. Von Daniken (writer of Chariots of the Gods, which kick-started the whole ancient aliens bs) was racist as all hell for starters.

I find the notion of aliens kinda cute. Like imaginary friends. A projection. But considering scale, we are virtually nonexistent. Empty space. But we are a really singular planet in the cosmos... Right? We probably wouldn't recognize them anyway. Maybe "they" have been here from the beginning. We wouldn't know. Maybe we are one of a zillion iterations of life all happening at once.

Given the vast number of stars and the number with planetary systems, I have little doubt that there is life on other worlds. But how much of that life is capable of technological societies is an unanswered question for which we have 0 evidence. And if Special Relativity continues to stand up to experimental scrutiny, it is possible we will, and can, never know. The speed of light, fast as it is, is one hell of a barrier to communication between systems, esp. once you get into hundreds or thousands of light years distance.

That's pretty much why the ETH doesn't work for me

So its unlikely UAP are "nuts n bolts" spacecraft

...a really singular planet...
yes, our place in reality seems to violate the copernican principle

Our Earth-moon system is unusual
Our solar system is unusual
Our sun is unusual
and so forth

Just goes to show reality don't have to match with our theories (wether that is Copernicanism or uniformitarianism)

Reality is always "HOLY! WTF IS THAT THING? WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?"
Then various forms of hilarity ensue

And any or all of those could be part of the reason life evolved on Earth as it did. Another thing that's been suggested as being unusual about Earth is plate tectonics. We live on a very geologically active world. That's a possible factor in how life developed, too. If the conditions for multicellular life capable of technology are quite unusual to the point of being unique at the cluster or galaxy level, maybe there are not any others close by. We may not be unique in our universe, but even being unique in our galaxy or its cluster is enough to ensure we remain isolated from whatever else is out there.

right
that's why we shouldn't rely on things like Uniformitarianism or Copernican Principle...
Or even the Principle of Parsimony for how planets orbit our sun. Between angels move the planets and gravity etc does it, gravity etc isn't simpler

I think we are unusual rather than unique
We aren't NORMAL *air horn* We are abbynormal, off the bell curve on either side, and I like that :3
