Respectfully, you can't refute unsafe with biblical arguments. She has her own. That will always go in circles.

To blunt the damage done by the unsafes of the world, I really think her beliefs need a light shone on them. They need to be mocked. Not because we will change unsafe, but to prevent more unsafes.

She has way too much invested in her rigid beliefs to change now.

And maybe mockery isn't the answer, but I don't have a better one handy. Her faith demands to be taken seriously. So don't. It's not worthy of that.

Scriture says neither thing, nor would one expect it to. SCripture, like everything else in humans history, is subject to interpretation. A basic grasp of Church history would tell you that there has always been a multi-vocal nature to Scripture and to theology.

Or you can continue to believe that everybody else is wrong ....

Lack of understanding of how the church evolved and developed post-Resurrection is a big problem. People assume things are Biblical that actually came out of other early writings and Church councils and that sort of thing. Some ideas that are relatively recent are assumed to go back to Jesus. And so on.

Trivial seasonal example: Mary riding a donkey to Bethlehem isn't Biblical. Nowhere in the Luke narrative does it mention how she got to Bethlehem, even if riding a donkey rather than walking makes some sense given she was in her third trimester. It's from the Protoevangelium of James, c. 145CE, which was popular in the early church but never canonized. It's also the early source for a lot of ideas about Mary.

Like a lot of Christians of various stripes who uplift their interpretation as the only correct one (it isn't just evangelicals and fundamentalists).

If that is how you see Scripture GordW --then that is how you see it --

But ---that is not how I see it ----so think as you like ---that is your right -----and you have every right to interpret Scripture as you yourself see fit =====

But scripture clearly to me says -----this ----and you can interpret this anyway you like that is your right ----but you can't change what the Scripture says here from 3 different Bibles ----all you can do is NOT BELIEVE what it says and say you interpret it differently ----and that is fine by me ----I don't care what you believe -----

And I have every right to believe what it says ---and post the Scripture ---as it is ----I don't have to interpret it as it interprets itself ------very clearly and precise-----

Well it's a little difficult to be humble when you think you're BFFs with a supreme being. If I thought I was going to have a better fate than all of you, simply by believing in some guy and following his arbitrary rules, that would be worth gloating over.

Like I've said before, my brain simply can't believe. I can't trick myself into it, can't pretend, and don't want to chance taking Berserk's advice and bonking myself on the head for the sake of believing something I can not believe in an non-concussed state.

Other people, I have to admit, seem wired for belief. They need it to be true, or they accept different sorts of explanations and evidence than I do, and they believe. Great. Fill your boots.

It's the twits who insist their supreme BFF has all the answers for everybody and we need to all live like them, who need to be mocked back into the previous century.

You don’t have to perform any ritual or have any belief, besides believing in love, to have or give love. If you believe God is the source of love itself then God is patient and kind and whoever loves gets it from the same source Jesus got it. He died for his conviction that love is the answer, not to create a fear based religion that answers to an abusive patriarch. He died to free people from that notion. Unfortunately, humans got it wrong for most of history.

Like a Joni Mitchell song? Where’d the other side go? It’s somewhere. Over Loredo? That’s another song, inside a song. It’s all up in the air. All you need is love is another one. I stand by that. If you don’t have it, you don’t have what you need. But people don’t have to do a song and dance for it. Some give more love than they receive and it’s nice to believe that there’s a benevolent being who cares. If we can care, that must be a universal element of possibility related to consciousness - there must be a source.

Love exists. Consciousness exists. You couldn’t proclaim your beliefs without consciousness. You couldn’t be aware of love without it. There’s no evil in those statements - it’s not there and there’s no evil intent in saying it.
