Probably wise to familiarize one's self to the local customs before visiting.Does anyone here do yoga? Would you ever go to another country, go to one of its national historic places and display your skills there? A controversy has sprung up online due to a visitor to Korea from Vietnam

Oh boy.
"The article discusses the ongoing controversy over the Christian cross atop the Christmas tree at Seoul Plaza. The debate centers around whether the cross reflects religious bias in a public space. The Christmas tree, topped with a cross, has been a tradition since the early 2000s, sparking debates about religious favoritism and neutrality. While Protestant groups finance and support the cross, critics argue it breaches religious neutrality. Despite public outcry and complaints, the cross remains a fixture, defended by Protestant groups as an appropriate symbol for Christmas." - summarised by Bing Copilot.
Here's the article: Does cross atop Christmas tree at Seoul Plaza reflect religious bias?
My opinion is, Christmas is a Christian celebration. Of course the Christmas tree topper must be a Christian symbol. I'd love it if a star was there, but a cross is excellent also
Hmmm, interesting. As mentioned in Room for All. The president of South Korea declared martial law. And then rescinded it. Story below. @Jae will hopefully be along soon with his thoughts.

Here's the Korea Herald report: South Korea sees first martial law in over 40 years.
Good to know it's over.....do you think more unrest will come out of it. i read that the president isn't too popular.D'oh! Okay, I wondered why I hadn't heard about it. The state of martial law took place last night about 10 pm to about 4 am this morning
This morning, one of my students and I watched videos of the event from various news sources, including Korean sources, CNN, and CBC. My student told me that President Yoon's not popular. He also said that he expects there to be an election here within the next 4 months, and that he wouldn't be surprised if the president goes to prison (it wouldn't be the first time in Korean history that a president has).Good to know it's over.....do you think more unrest will come out of it. i read that the president isn't too popular.
Is that what you perceive as going on, jim? It just seems to me that Christians who are celebrating a Christian holiday want a Christian symbol on the tree they've payed for. When Christmas trees in other places are usually topped with a star or angel, why would Protestants go out of their way to offend other people?
