    what are you reading?

Current book study group read is - "Entangled Life - How Fungi Make our Worlds" by Merlin Sheldrake. Fascinating! Try to find the 2023 edition - has extraordinary colour photos. Saw a review the other day of "The Swedish Art of Aging Exuberantly" - looks excellent. I think a trip to my...

    WHen Do we Start Afresh?

To your question about starting afresh - at some point, we have to put some things down to free ourselves enough to pick other things up. I've sometimes used a 'start, stop, continue' method of sorting activities in organizations to help figure out priorities and ways to loosen up.

    WHen Do we Start Afresh?

Great questions Gord. I have found many people are both lacking in imagination and are risk avoidant - personally and organizationally - a combination that presents huge barriers to change. Sometimes its been helpful to name these - as some people operate at a pretty unconscious and...

    what are you reading?

With my book study group, I'm currently reading "Let's Talk About Hard Stuff" by Anna Sale. She has divided it into 5 topic areas - death, sex, money, family, & identity. I'm just on money at the moment. I like the author's style of approach - storytelling in a variety of contexts, leaving...

    what are you reading?

That's such an interesting book isn't it Nancy? I liked it for a 'show read' - taking time to contemplate, not race through. The Serviceberry is a much shorter book by same author - focusing on a 'gift economy'. My book study group has just started "Lets Talk About Hard Things" by Anna Sale...

The Enemies Project; Bringing People Together

I have not seen any of these - yet. For a while here in the GTA - the Star ran a weekly column where they brought 2 political opponents together to go on some sort of community expedition and talk/write about what they saw; listening to the other and commenting on that experience too. It was...

    Room For All

I have a box of handwritten letters sent to me many decades ago - some from my mom, some from my grandmother, my aunt, my summer camp best friends & other 'pen pals'. Its such a delight to pull some out now & then to read what was written in loving penmanship to my teenage self. Seeing the...

    Rev. Tom York

Thanks chansen - that was an interesting read - and such an interesting sounding person. I'm curious to read a book or two of his as I have ties to both Yellowknife and Whistler/Pemberton. It's not surprising that the original chapel was such a destination for weddings - most likely served by...

The pressures on families with special needs

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that money, and extended family/community supports make a difference. Government (ie communal financial) support is inadequate to meet complex needs today. There is also no doubt that many families who are caregivers, often to/beyond the limits of human...

    Do not question ...

That's interesting. I hadn't thought of that. Some years ago we spent a vacation touring Saskatchewan. There were many abandoned grain elevators across the province, located near once thriving communities. We learned that the railroad had ceased to use & maintain the numerous sidings which...

    Do not question ...

Dickinson is a notable Canadian providing leadership in business & entrepreneurship. As such she has participated in recent year(s?) in a number of focused discussions relating to economic strategy in Canada. She brings some interesting perspectives to the table I think, and does not seem to...

    Do not question ...

Hi Ninj - I haven't watched that video (yet) - but it does perhaps resonate with some of what Dickinson wrote about growing up in the Mormon faith (which she was expelled from, and moved on). "When you hear political leaders wrapping their agendas in the language of Scripture, when they talk...
